A second lap?

Before we were able to get pregnant with our son, my RE did a laproscopic hysteroscopy. She found mild endometriosis and was able to clear it out during the surgery. A few months after that, we were able to conceive via clomid/IUI (we had been trying for 4+ years, but our only success was after the lap). That surgery was about 2 1/2 years ago.

So now that we are thinking about TTC #2, I wonder if they will want to repeat the procedure to check for endo again. I Has anybody experienced something like this?

Thanks!

Re: A second lap?

  • I had a LAP/HSG to remove endo & uterine polyps.  I conceived naturally the 2nd cycle after the surgery.  I thought that maybe I'd need one again, but ultrasounds have shown no more polyps and my dr doesn't think I have any symptoms to show that endo has returned.  So for me no surgery.

But talk with your dr and see if it seems like your symptoms have returned.  I have seem some ladies on here who have had multiple LAPs.

  • I have had two laps and a laparatomy (full open surgery) for my endo and my RE told me I will probably need another when we start trying again since my endo is aggressive.  I also have very terrible periods and severe cramping all the time so they want to clean me out.  I was able to get pregnant naturally three months after stopping my Lupron Depot and 6 months after my last lap.  The surgeries really do help but you also hit a point where you do more damage by adding scar tissue due to the surgery than the scar tissue caused by the endo.  It is all a guessing game.

  • Thanks for your responses! I made a call today to go and talk to the RE. I can't get in for about a month, but at least I made the call!

I've been noticing a lot of pain with my periods lately, which makes me suspect more endo. :(
