Transverse Babies?

Does anyone else's LO prefer to be transverse?

Mine was breech with his butt really low as of 28 weeks.  Then around 30 wks, he came back up out of my pelvis and decided that sideways is more fun.  Now he mostly has his butt and legs around my right ribs and extending over to my right side and his head just left of my belly button.  He's been this way for 2 weeks.  Is he going to figure out the right positioning eventually?

I'm not thrilled with his positioning because it's a little uncomfortable as he tries to stretch the sides of my belly.  Plus, I would like him to go head down so that is one less thing for me to worry about.  This cannot be the roomiest way to fit in my uterus, so I'm not sure what the appeal is for him.  LOL.

Re: Transverse Babies?

  • My LO has been transverse for almost three weeks now and I agree, it isn't comfortable at all. I am hoping he/she figures it out soon and gets into the head down position!

  • I swear I think my LO is transverse.  I have an appointment tonight and plan to ask my doc if I am right.  I know it's too early for me to worry about it... but I just hope he decides to turn in time.

  • Mine was transverse and then around 34 weeks became frank breech. If he stays transverse you'll have a better shot at the ECV working than if he was to go into some other breech position. GL!

Good point.  I didn't think about that.  For now, I'm trying some of the other techniques to see if I can help him figure it out.  But I think we'll try an ECV if he still hasn't turned by 36/37 weeks.
