3rd Trimester

Worth the money? Primrose and Rasberry Tea?

So those taking Primrose oil and Red Leaf Rasberry tea, should I go out and buy some tonight? My midwife suggested it as a way to help get my cervix ripened in hopes of avoiding labor induction in a couple weeks, but I'm wondering if they're really worth the money.

Part of me feels like the little guy is going to get here when he's darn tootin ready and then the other part of me really wants to do everything I can to avoid a medical induction...

Re: Worth the money? Primrose and Rasberry Tea?

  • My doc said walk walk walk and have sex
  • Loading the player...
  • I forgot to ask my doctor about the primrose... Is it okay for everyone to use or would you recommend asking your doc first?!?!

What do you think?! DId you ask your doc?!

I've been walking, having sex, hooking my boobs up to the breast pump for nipple stimulation, orgasms, squatting...and in a week I've not progressed at all (booo!!), maybe I just need to keep doing this...

i feel the exact same way. i can't decide how serious i want to get about trying all these natural induction theories... but at the same time i REALLY don't want to be induced, and i want my baby here!

  • Try EVERYTHING! I didn't, I was all casual about it, and ended up with an induction and c-s at 41w2d. I wanted a med-free natural birth.

I regret it a little, but of course I'm happy to have a healthy baby in the end.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

Well and we're trying to spend very conservatively right now and I don't really want to go buy all this stuff to have it not work or to end up going into labor tonight or something. Grr, I'm so pulled.

  • I've been drinking the Raspberry Leaf tea since 2nd tri... it doesn't promote induction, it only tones your uterus to hopefully make labor easier and help it shrink faster after delivery. So if your goal is induction, I would say it isn't worth the $$. I'm just drinking it to try to make labor a little easier on myself if possible. As far as the Primrose Oil goes, I've seen women on these boards who started using it at 37 weeks and are still around at 41+ weeks, so use your best judgement on that.

    This.

However, I found a local tea shop in my area that sells raspberry leaf and it was only about $3 for a bit over 3oz., not a bad price at all and that amount will last awhile. I have been mixing it in with other herbal teas... a chamomile blend is quite nice in the evening!  can't hurt to try.
