I decided that I'm going to get a second opinion at the University of New Mexico Cancer Center. I have a close friend that works there and she recommended a surgical oncologist. One of the things I've been struggling with is my current doctor is one that I don't know, who has then referred me to a plastic surgeon whome I don't know, etc. It's important that I get the best care and not just one that is "assigned" to me.
I'm going through a battery of tests this week...I've had blood drawn, I meet with a plastic surgeon tomorrow, mammogram on Thursday, and an MRI on Friday. Next Wednesday is an ultrasound on my lymph nodes. After that, we'll hopefully have a more complete picture. My consult with the UNM doctor is on December 1.
I'm just ready to get everything over and done with and be on the road to recovery already!
Re: NBR - A small update on me
yes there are! good luck with everything you have coming up!
I agree that it's a good idea to get a second opinion. My mom always taught me to by my own advocate when it came to my health/healthcare. Also, trust your instincts!
Sending you lots of positive thoughts! You are going to beat this...
It sounds like you're taking a really proactive roll in your treatment and that's wonderful!! Good luck with all your upcoming appts!

Sending positive vibes your way!
Second (and even more if need be) opinions are never a bad thing, especially when it comes to breast cancer. I know from my Mom's experience with it that protocol on treatment, reconstruction and hormonal therapy following can drastically differ from hospital to hospital and YOU are in the driver's seat on what feels right and what providers you are comfortable with. i think a second opinion is always a good thing. i don't have any wisdom to offer, just want to remind you that we are all thinking of you and praying for the best.Good luck! You will find the right people.
A friend of mine kept this blog about her experience with breast cancer. You have to go back to 2007 to see the posts on treatment, but she talks about her frustration with all the various doctors.
