Talk to me. I *think* I've figured out that W is having a reaction to something in hummus (and I *think* it is either the tahini or lemon juice). Here's what he looks like right now from eating it (when this started, I stopped feeding it to him.). I'd say he had no more than a teaspoon. Obviously, I'm not going to be feeding him anymore hummus, but what do I do to figure out what exactly is causing this? And is this an allergy or just a reaction? I'm going to call the nurse at the pedi's office, but I'm just scared that there are other foods that are going to be problems. Ugh.

Sorry there are so many picts, but I didn't think any of them really show it well...
Re: If you've dealt with food allergies/reactions...(PIP heavy)
That is what LO's face looked like after eating cinnamon, and my pedi said it was just a skin reaction, not a true allergy. Is the hummus getting on his face in those places? Are there other spices in the hummus?
I would talk to your pedi, but that was just my experience with cinnamon. DS eats hummus, too, and we haven't had a skin reaction like that.
The hummus he had today did (roasted red pepper), but the hummus he had last time he had a reaction (I thought it was something else he'd eaten) didn't...so I don't think it's the red pepper.
Yeah, it is. I'm going to go look up sessame seeds. I don't know. Ugh I hate this.
One I thought about it, I remembered that the last time I bought the roasted red pepper hummus - DS did get that reaction. It was very similar to the cinnamon. But if it happened before without the red pepper, that might not be it.
Well sh!t. This is the first thing I read: "Doctors monitored published reports of allergic reactions to sesame products from 1950 (the first documented case of an allergic reaction to sesame) to the present. They noted that a study of Australian children showed that allergic reactions to sesame ranked fourth behind reactions to egg, milk, and peanuts, and sesame was the third most common allergy-inducing food in Israeli children. "
Mother of the year here.
He had a dirty diaper literally less than 5 minutes after finishing the hummus, and it was normal. Don't know if this is a good sign, or if it just hadn't gotten thru his system yet.
Yes it is and yes sesame can cause lots of allergies.
It's probably contact dermatitis from the lemon juice.
Was there a rash anywhere else on the body? When my LO has an allergic reaction it can spread to other places.
