I was reading my What to Expect Toddler years and by 18 months it said that dc can probably say around 50+ words, my ds is no where near 50 words at this point. The funny thing is at 17 months it said they should be able to say 2 1/2 words so it looks like a huge jump between 17-18 months.
Re: 50+ words for an 18 month old???
We were just at the pedi (DD is 17mo) and she asked if DD could say more than 30. When I said yes, she asked if I thought it were close to 50. I think so.
All kids are different though. I know two other kids just a little bit younger than DD and they don't say anything at all. My DD is just very chatty.
At DDs 18 month appointment our pedi asked if she says 6 words.
In my experience there is usually a HUGE vocab jump right around that time. DD had more than 50 words at that age.
I agree with pp....as long as he is showing/wanting to communicate... and you can see that he is learning new words...that is all that counts.
Have you counted his words and written them down? I did this last month and realized that DS had over 60! I was thinking it was around 40, but when I actually wrote them down it was alot more!
