I've had heartburn for most of this pregnancy and have been toughing it out with the help of a few Pepcid tablets/day (OB okayed up to 4). I am finding it's harder to sleep with the HB (do a fair amount of tossing and turning) and it bothers me periodically during the day.
I'm debating whether I should suck it up as a normal pregnancy thing or call and see if she can put me on a prescription med. Thoughts?
Re: Call doc or suck it up?
I talked to my doctor's nurse about getting an rx med, and they recommended trying a different med if the one I was on wasn't helping. ?Right now I'm doing Zantac with Tums in between, and the switch did seem to help a bit. ?But you can always call and ask.?
Ditto the others- sleeping reclined does help a lot. ?I slept in a recliner chair from 35 weeks on with DS. ?It was kind of miserable but it was the only way I could get a decent night of sleep.?

I was told to take 1 prilosec otc and 2 zantac or pepcid a day.
The prilosec is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) .. it reduces the amount of acid for a 24 hour period.
The other prescription meds are also PPI's, so it makes sense to get prilosec OTC. also, they just started carrying prevacid OTC, which is what they usually would give you for it!
I hope you feel better.
I have been in the "suck it up" category for weeks now. But two nights ago, mine was so bad that I woke up vomiting in the middle of the night. I'd really like to continue to suck it up since I'm so close to the end, but I'm going to ask my doctor about it at my appointment this week.
I am also probably going to resort to sleeping in a recliner soon. I try to keep myself propped up on pillows, but toss and turn and always end up flat.
It can't hurt to see what your doctor says. GL.
