3 months old only eating 2-4oz

isnt that really unusual? Don't most babies eat 5-6 oz a feeding at this age? My LO used to eat 4oz every 3 hours when he was 1 month old then he started eating all funny and taking 2-4oz ever 2.5-3 hours. I keep waiting for him to outgrow this habit but its been 2 months now! I keep asking the doctor and they say hes only going to eat what he needs. I just dont understand why he would eat more at 1 month than at 3 months! Anyone have a baby like this?

Has he been teething? Maybe it hurts to eat? I would definitely mention this to your pedi.

ETA: Also, does LO have reflux?

Is he BF or FF? My baby is 3 months and BF and eats 3-4 ounces every 2-4 hours when at daycare. If LO is BF, your breastmilk adjusts to be more calorie-rich and fatty as they get older, so they don't necessarily need more ounces as they get older. There might be times he eats more as he needs more calories, but then your body should get the message and adjust accordingly which might be why a younger baby would need to eat more ounces until your body catches up to how many calories they need. Of course, if you're FF, I have no idea!

currently my LO drinks 4oz at a time every 2-4 hours. i tried giving him a little more during feedings- but that didnt work out. he doesnt ask hungry after eating, plus we put cereal in it to thicken.

My LO does this, but he has reflux. He takes 4 oz about 1/2 the day's feedings 2-3 the rest.

LO is formula fed and does not have reflux. I wonder if I should call his pedi again. Last time I called about this she said he is just not going through a growth spirt right now and doesnt need any more than he eats and he'll start eating more soon. That was like a month ago and hes still not eating more. I dont know what his deal is!

I would think as long as he is gaining weight okay then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My 3 month old was on the other end of the spectrum...he was eating 8 oz every 3 hours at 3 months and my pedi just wanted to keep an eye on it and his weight.

This is exactly my DD, she barely eats. She was diagnosed with severe reflux about 2 weeks ago and is on zantac and isn't screaming when she eats but still only takes 2 1/2 to 3 oz at a time. She eats every 3 hours, some days she only takes about 15 oz but she is finally gaining weight so the ped says for now it is ok. She is 3 1/2 months and only weighs 10.9 lbs. It still worries me but she is a happy baby so i don't know

My LO is breastfed but she only eats 2-4 oz every 2-3 hours. She does have reflux, but she's still gaining a pound every two weeks and the pedi says she's chunky. As pp said i think as long as he's gaining it should be fine.

My LO is 4 months and he only eats 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours! I thought it was only him. His weight gained has slowed over time but he rarely seems hungry after eating . I BF and FF. Only once (last night) did he take a whopping 8 oz of formula. I kinda knew he would eat a lot because my supply has been pretty low in the evenings lately.
