NER: Help me get my sweet tooth under control!

I was always a savory kind of girl, but when I got pregnant I developed a serious sweet tooth.  It's only gotten worse in the two months since DD was born, and it's the reason I haven't dropped any weight in the last six weeks despite exclusively breastfeeding.  I know that in order to lose weight I need to cut the calories, but what I really need help with is controlling the cravings.  Eating an apple just doesn't cut it.  Does anyone have advice?  ::goes to the fridge for pie, hanging head in shame::

  • Sorry - I have no advice because the same thing happened to me - and 17mos later - no change, I need to lose 30 pounds, so I need to get a move on. I need to switch to fruit & get rid of all the hfcs crap.

    good luck!!!

  • try that caramel dip on the apple.  try fat free fudgsicles, try sprinkling cinnamon sugar on fat free popcorn.  if you try to fight the sweet craving you'll just wind up binging, so try to fit it in in small batches.  dark chocolate is healthier then milk.  get low fat or fat free ice creams, or fruit bars.
  • I say eat the pie but as I'm on my way for a hunk of brownie I'm not the best person to look to for advice!

  • Trader Joe's 100 calorie dark chocolate bars. Monounsaturated fatty acid goodness. I have a killer sweet tooth, and even in my worst moments I can eat one of these and be satisfied.

  • I keep Ben & Jerry's frozen yogurt in the fridge. Surprisingly, I do not want to eat the entire pint like I do the ice cream. It's nice to have a little something sweet that is not so fattening and bad for me.

I also switched from regular Coke to a root beer made with pure cane sugar and NO HFCS. I don't want to drink it nearly as much, which has been helping.

You could also make homemade lemonade and keep that in the fridge. That has helped curb some of my cravings.
