ammonia burns? *Hippi* and others

Hippi mentioned in my post below, about RLR use, that some of you had trouble with CC buildup on diapers and, in her words, ammonia hell. Also, ammonia burns.

Can someone describe to me what ammonia burns look like? I think this may be what we're seeing on DD, but I"m not sure.

Help?

Re: ammonia burns? *Hippi* and others

  • when K had ammonia burns, her whole butt was red, with white blisters.

She SCREAMED whenever I tried to change her. We immediately went out and bought sposies and bordeaux's butt paste. It took a little over a week, but it did clear up. I also used a little bacitracin on the blisters too.

  • Kate had red irritation but it was nothing like that Go4 was dealing with.  I saw her baby's bottom and wanted to cry for her because it was so read and raw.

My problem was mostly the stink.  It was super strong and regular washing and stripping did nothing.  I had to super strip with RLR and Dawn and then we used Tide for a month. After that I stripped again to make sure and we are now back to using a more EF option w/ no problems.

Like .. ? I'm afraid I'm going to have to change detergents.

I also ordered some soapnuts after hearing they were pretty good for diapers. Maybe that will be my answer. I hope!

  • we're switching to planet. I've had ok luck with rockin green (we have hard water), but I was wanting something we could find local, and our grocery store carries planet liquid

  • We have hard water, too.

Has anyone tried the new hard-water version of CC?

I haven't but pretty sure all she did is add in a bit pf powdered water softener.    I won't be trying it.  I am not taking the chance.  It cost me an arm and a leg to fix my diapers the last time.

no, and I won't. The lack of response and the blame game she played with me and others has made me never want to buy another one of her products ever again.

I spent tons of time and water stripping them myself before I finally gave up and had a local diaper service strip them for another 25 dollars.
