Multiples

Just a quick question...

if you don't mind if I pry a bit.  I have a friend who took clomid and is now pregnant for twins. She is not finding out what she is having but I was curious of the odds.  You know boy/boy, girl/girl, or boy/girl?  or how many of you got triplet from clomid?  By the way congrats to all of you multiples moms!  thanks in advance :)

Re: Just a quick question...

  • I don't think Clomid would increase the odds of having boys over girls or vice versa, but here is how my OB explained it for anyone having twins:

    50% one of each

    25% two boys

    25% two girls

  • The chromosome of the males sperm (X or Y) determines the sex of the baby.  IF treatments do not have anything to do with what sex(es) the babies are.
  • I got pg on clomid and I'm having 2 boys.  Clomid won't really make a difference though, it's just what spermies are up there waiting for all of those eggs to drop.  Trips from Clomid is very rare, I think like 1% or so.
  • Thanks for the info...I understand that clomid does not change what you will or won't have when it comes to twins I just wondered what the rest of you ladies were having...just to see what the ratio here seems to be.  Thanks again :)

this is true only for people having fraternals... IDs are obviously going to be both boys OR girls so these stats would be different if they also included all the ID twins.

FWIW my twin playgroup (about 8 sets of twins) randomly only has two sets of B/G twins, so definitely less than 50%, although it's much too small of a sample to really matter whatsoever... just think it's interesting

  • We had 2 girls but we did IUI and injections with the clomid and that changes the odds completely. Ironically this way is supposed to increase the chance of boys but my poor DH cant get away from pink that easy ;)
