Trying to Get Pregnant

*autumnbride*

Hi there, I had posted this the other day, but I think I missed you. I read your poll that you had posted as well as your post tonight and I'm trying to follow what's going on. You are doing IVF and donating eggs in the same cycle? How does that work?

If you only end up with two viable embies you are going to give one up? What about snowbabies?

Sorry to be nosey. We are doing IVF if this cycle fails and I have never heard of someone doing IVF and being an ED in the same cycle.

  • hey Niki, sorry i missed you the other day.

Yes, we are doing a shared ivf/ donor cycle.

I will split the cost of the meds and processed up to, and including, the egg retrival. (after that, i'm on my own)

When they retrieve my eggs, i'll keep 1/2 of them and the other 1/2 will go to another family (my donation).

We are hoping for at least 20 eggs, so we can split them and have at least 10 per couple. *hoping is the key word* lol.

So, if i get 10 (lets say) and all 10 are matched using ICSI, and 5 are high quality... we'll implant 2 and freeze 3.

After the egg retreival, it becomes a normal IVF cycle.

    Good luck!!! :)

  • Wow that is crazy. Good luck to you! I have one more nosey question and then I promise I'm done for tonight. Are you doing this to help with the cost of IVF or because you've always wanted to be a donor?

I'm struggling with what to do with extra embies we would have once we were done forming our family, but I think the most I'm comfortable with is donating them to science.

  • This was def not a decision i made over night, and i really had to turn to my core beliefs in order to make the decision.

I knew it could help with costs, which i would be lying if i said that money was not an issue...but the main reason i want to do it is because i feel like its what i'm suppose to do.

After 2 years of dealing with infertilty, i realized that there is something i can do to help someone else, when i myself have very little to give.

So i began researching, asking questions, contacting my RE's office, and got the ball rolling. This is NOT something that my RE's office typically practices, but they put it through to the board and it was approved.

As for embrios..thats a completely different story for me. If we have more frozen than i would know what to do with... i dont know.... i can honestly say that at this point i wouldn't have a clue what to do. So i'm just doing this one day at a time. For today, i have to get over the hurdle of genetics and my personality test. Next week, it'll be something new i'm sure.

If Infertility has taught me one thing, its that i can't ever say something "for certain" because nothing is promised.
