Anyone else have this issue with one or both of your twins? I'm 14 weeks along and experiencing bleeding so I've had several ultrasounds in the last few days. At the last one we saw that twin A's cord is implanted in the upper corner of the placenta, rather than in the middle. No previa and my doc says its too soon to identify an abruption, so still no explanation for the bleeding. I do know, however, that its not related to anything going on with the cord on baby A.
My primary concern is the cord. Anyone experience this? How did it work out?
Re: minimal cord implantation in twin A
Baby A has a marginal cord insertion. Dr's didn't seem too concerned. My peri said that we would most likely have a c-section due to this, but my regular OB said not necessarily....
My baby B had a velamentous cord insertion that was identified at 18w - she had always measured small before so this explained why. I never had any bleeding though. Her growth slowed further around 26 weeks and I had weekly u/s until I was induced at 34w5d due to pre-eclampsia. She had pretty much stopped growing at that point so they were going to induce me anyway. I did have a vaginal delivery with a breech extraction of baby B - I asked my dr since others on this board said their drs wouldn't allow vaginal delivery and she had no problems with it.
At birth baby A was 5lbs 5oz and B was 3lbs 12oz, so much smaller, but she was perfectly healthy. Now at 6 months old she is still about 1.5 pounds smaller than her sister, but meeting all milestones and catching up quickly in size!
Baby A had marginal cord placement for me. I spent 10 weeks on bed rest trying to maximize blood flow to my placenta by lying on my left side and doing lots of protein.
Girls were born at 34w and were 2 lbs 13 oz and 4 lbs 9 oz. They spent 2 weeks in the NICU and came home together.
