Mixed race baby??

DH is chinese, and I am whiter than white...

Anyone else curious as to whether their child will even remotely resemble them? I just keep thinking that the baby is going to only look like daddy with the dark hair, dark eyes, and the asian eyes. which are BEAUTIFUL dont get me wrong, but is there any hope for my blond hair and blue eyes??? Any!?!?

Please post photos if you have a child who is both, I would love to see. I think they're all so beautiful and unique. Even those that are not mixed race!!!

*****mixed, multi racial, and just plain adorable!*****

Re: Mixed race baby??

  • I know that with children who are half white, half asian, they almost always look more asian. The traits are more dominant.

  • Well I am mixed my dad is Caucasian and my mom is Mexican. Though my dad has brown hair but blue eye's all 3 of us have dark hair and DARK eyes. Mostly we take after our mom. Dh is half Syrian and I am mixed but both of our features are dark so it's expected for our baby to have dark features as well just wondering who's will be more dominant.

  • Yea. I figured as much. I am so screwed!! My father is so in denial because everyone on his side of the family, and me and my sisters are so clearly from the Leach side of the family. This baby is going to be a Lee, i dont think there is any hope for us Leach girls!!

  • Let me just say that as someone who is multi-racial I hate being called mixed (it's always really bothered me). I guess from kids making fun of me in school ??

My sister and I don't look more like my mother or father but we do have features of theirs. Like I have my mom's nose, dad's lips, mom's hair texture and dad's hair color, Dad's eyes, dad's build but mom's height, etc..

  • yeah my uncel is white and my aunt is Asian, both of my cousins look Asian,

  • yeah, my dad is Italian and my mom is Irish and I look like my dad 100%.

Just putting it out there not arguing but I am two different races and have never been bothered by being called "mixed". Because I am, a mix of two races.

I can see both sides. It makes sense technically, but sadly there are many who use it as slur. I don't cringe when I hear people use it in a harmless way, but I do try to avoid it myself.

  • My DH is also Chinese and I am white. I pretty much accepted the fact that the baby will look more asian. I think mixed babies are so adorable, so I can't wait to see who he looks like. I naturally have dark brown hair and brown eyes, so I don't think the baby will look too different from me. As for someone with blond hair and blue eyes, I would not count on the baby having those features. I think asian features are just way more dominant.

  • Does anyone else think it's weird that Asian features are considered more "dominant" when 50% of the kid's genes will ultimately come from the dad and 50% from the mom? (Also I have see hapa kids who look more White than Asian.)

My husband is blond and has blue eyes and I am Asian American. Of course we're also excited to see how our baby will look but we know that it will be a combination of him and me.

huh? I don't get your point. It doesn't matter that half come from each if more than one is dominant. Just like if one had brown eyes and one has blue, your are more likely to have a brown eyed kid. It doesn't matter that half came from mom and half came from dad.

Yes, I know this is true. Brown eyes are a dominant gene. Blue eyes are recessive. Black hair is a dominant gene, and blond hair is recessive, etc etcc... so the chances of my baby having blond hair and blue eyes is probably like less than 25% realistically. but its all in God's hands.

  • I have a friend whose father is African American.  His mother is Cuban.  He was born with facial features resembling both his mother and father, but with light skin, blond hair and blue eyes.  Apparently, his father has a caucasian parent and that's where the gene came from.  My point is that genes can be tricky and you'll never know until you're little one is here.  And when that happens, he/she will be the most beautiful baby in the world and it won't matter much who they look like.

I'm confused as to why its not obviously the case. Thats why I'm not following you.

  • so, first i wanted to say that i live really close to you. .

second. . . our child is 1/2 korean, 25% white and 25% black and when she was born . . she looked so much like DH and now she looks more like me at 21 months.

my SIL's children are 1/2 chinese and 1/2 white (Irish to be exact).  two of the children are very faired skinned, but look more chinese. .  the last child looks irish 100%.

oh, so for me . .i'm 1/2 black and 1/2 white . . for us . .me and my youngest brother look more like the black side, but have def features from my dad.  my middle brother looks more like my dad. .

so moral . . you dc could look like anyone . . Let me see if I can find some pics.

  • I am the great granddaughter of a chinese and have a tiny bit of asian features, that is how strong those genes are (there has been a lot of mixing along the way: white spanish, black haitian, mulatto jamaican, green martian, you name it, I have it)

Again, nobody can really predict what a baby will look like and I find half asian-half white babies just plain adorable (I've seen some with almond shaped green eyes and brown hair) so I guess you have that big surprise awaiting. Isn't it exciting? :D

At this point its not even about asian features or white features. simply the fact that brown is a dominant gene over blue, and black is a dominant gene over blonde. in any race. and of course it doesnt matter what my baby has because i will be so beyond thrilled regardless!

i am just so damn anxious to know what he/she will look like...!!! :):)

Because many multiracial individuals are not recognized phenotypically as being multiracial. Some are more White looking and others are less White looking.

dominant doesn't mean that every person with that mix will end up with the dominant phenotype.

Again, brown eyes are dominant over blue. Yet a brown eyed parent and a blue eyed parent can still produce a blue eyed child...

  • According to Mendelev, her kids would have pretty much zero posibilities of having light eyes (if the father doesn't have the recessive gene, which apparently is not the case) but don't we see it happening everyday in reall life?

Bottom line: babies will look in a way we can not predict, which is wonderful and exciting :)

  • Eye color is one feature of many in what ultimately makes up how someone looks like. Sure some phenotypes are dominant and some are recessive, but the whole package of how a multiracial person will look is not going to be "overridden" by one parent versus the other.

Right. Like nobodys nose shape or smile or chin or face shape are dominant over another parent (or race that i am aware of). so even if the baby has all dark features, she/he may 100% have mommy's facial features.

This is just fun.  Sorry I don't know how to make it clicky.

  • My dad is German and my mom is Iroquois.  The only trait I got from my dad is his build and metabolism.  I resemble my mom almost 100%.  Dark hair usually always prevails over light, and dark eyes are definitely dominant over blue.  Plus I have the dark complexion and have NO body hair, like my mom.  My dad's family is nothing but blue eyes, but damnit if I don't have the darkest of brown eyes.

DH is also German/Irish with blonde hair & blue eyes...I'm not holding much hope that my LO has blue eyes, but there might be a tad bit of hope for light hair.  Somehow my sister got my Dad's Mom's blonde hair, so I know the trait is there.

Oh that was fun! I'm one of five. and we ALL have completely different eye colors. My mother is kind of hazely green, my dad is very green with brown specks, oldest sis is BRIGHT blue, next sis in line is BROWN, i am blue in left eye and right is half green/half blue (heterochromia), younger bro is greyish blue with yellow towards the pupils, next bro is greyish hazel, and my youngest bro is slate blue.

DH is BROWN. his mom is BROWN. siblings all BROWN.

according to that, basically like i said my kids have a 25 % chance of blue or green, or anything other than brown. basically due to the dominance of the brown.
