I can't keep things out of DS's crib

DS has acquired a stuffed animal fetish lately. He discovered the shoe organizer on the back of his bedroom door where I've had them all stuffed. He insists on having them in his crib. Periodically I take some out and try to hide them, a short time later he finds them and puts them back.

Tonight I when I told him it was time for bed he crawled under the crib and turned on his white noise machine. While he was down there he apparently discovered where I left his extra blankets. So of course he decided he needed those too!

So tonight he's sleeping with a duck (which is bigger then he is), a monkey, a small monkey, an elephant, and a hippo. Plus 3 crochet blankets, and two soft plush blankets.

I just snuck in there to pull out what I could and hide back in his closet.

  • My son is/has always been a stuffed animal snuggler too.  He would have the entire "zoo" in there if he had his way.

I realize you are mostly posting this as a humorous anecdote, not asking for advice, but if you want to handle this, here's what I'd advise.

Pick a number, limit him to that number, and let him pick which friends will have a "turn" to sleep in the bed with him tonight.  This will help him understand about taking turns as well.  You can make a real bedtime ritual out of it, and make it fun.  He will have to "coach" his stuffed buddies on waiting their turn!

  • Yeah we are up to 5 stuffed toys and two blankets.  Bear, Baby, Dora, Elmo, and Linny (Wonder Pet).  Linny just joined the gang.  Sigh.

I love this idea. If nothing else even just to teach taking turns.
