TTC After a Loss

NTTCALR: Locks for Love

So this weekend I cut off 11 inches of hair and I'm donating it to Locks for Love, which makes wigs for children with cancer. My hair hasn't been this short since the 8th grade! But I think I like it.

  • I did that a couple years ago... Such an amazing cause to contribute to...

    Good for you!

  • Wow - kudos to you!  I wish my hair would grow long enough to do this.

No kidding. It takes no time at all. And no more snarls!! (Plus my shampoo and conditioner should last three times longer.)

  • That is really awesome of you. It is so sad to watch our cancer kids lose their hair, and it always seems to be the ones with gorgeous hair. Your donaion will make a kid truly happy. You rock!!!

  • That's awesome! Randomly enough, my brother did that after my wedding. Here's him at my wedding, he has nice hair.

  • Ok, I am really, truly not trying to rain on anyone's parade. Really, I swear and I promise I am not. But if you are thinking about growing your hair out to donate it, it cannot be colored or layered, and you need to have really thick hair. They will still accept the donation, of course, but they won't use it otherwise. They actually use a very, very small percentage of the hair they get, b/c if the hair is colored, layered, damaged, or there's not enough to make a full wig out of it, they can't use it. Just an FYI, if you want to donate make sure your hair meets the requirements and you're not chopping it off for nothing!

It'd be really nice too if they were up front about this.?

  • It also must be at least 10 inches.  If it is gray (i'm saying this because sometimes whole families donate from Grandma on down) they sell the hair and use the profit because they obviously can't make gray hair wigs for kids. They will still get the benefit...just not maybe in the way you thought.  I cut my hair right after my first loss before the PG hormones left and I started losing the thicker hair.  My sisters thought I had gone crazy because I have pretty much always worn my hair long.  Even cutting off 12 inches left me with just above the shoulder length hair so I don't know why they freaked...that and the fact that they have been after me to cut my hair for years. I've done it once more since then andam growing myhair out for waht will probably be mylast donation.
