Special Needs

posting for a friend, special needs nanny help

Whats the best resource to find a nanny/babysitter when daycare is out of the question? To be more specific in the Houston area? is there a good website you ladies use?

  • Is the child in PT or OT?  I might ask the provider there for references if so.

Also, Morningside nannies seems run a pretty good business -- I know they have nannies with expertise with preemies; they could likely find someone experienced with special needs, too.

  • If you don't mind me asking:  What is/are the LO special needs?  I also have a friend that we made during our extended stay in the hospital whose dealing with the same issue (here in Houston).  Her LO was in daycare, but recent developments have determined that he needs to be away from that enviroment.

    BTW, I'm in Richmond too!

  • My DS has autism and I curiously had a lot of college student respond to my sittercity.com ad, despite the fact that at the time he didn't have a diagnosis and I did not specify special needs qualifications in my ad.  Many of them were studying to become OT or SP and needed a PT job working with children, but had some experience.  I agree that asking her current specialists for recommendations is a great idea.
