  • i know, i usually don't either.  i have sunk to a new low.  it's just that all the mw's at work and their family members have done it.  now the clinic even offers this weight loss thing as a new service.

i have been totally convinced that it works.  they say that so far no one has failed on it.  i hope i'm not the first.  :(

thanks for worrying about me.  will you come to my funeral if i die?

  • Good luck!  I've heard only positive things about the diet so I'm sending  you tons of weight loss dust.  (There's dust for everything!)

I do not support the use of fad diets but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do!

  • You have to inject yourself with stuff for a diet? Yikes. Details, por favor.

  • ayyyy, it's totally loco!

you inject yourself with a small amount of HCG (the pg hormone) and then eat 500 cals per day.  your body thinks you are pg and starving so it starts burning all of the extra fat that you've stored for energy.  you only do it for 40 days- the first two days you gorge yourself.  then if you still need to lose more weight you wait 6 weeks and do it again.

you lose a little less than a pound a day.  the girls i work with have lost anywhere from 20-80lbs.  Surprise

Dios mio, Tex, I'm gonna have to brain you for this. I am writing a nutrition and exercise dissertation for cintim, and am feeling a strong need to send it to you too.

Your body will think you are starving on this crack-brain diet because YOU ARE STARVING IT. Not to mention starvation at that level is breeding grounds for binging.

  • Wow!  I have to admit, these things scare me too.  We have Dr. Bernstein here in Canada, and they give you injections 3 times a week, and I think they include B6, B12 and some other stuff.  The high concentration of B6 helps with weight loss, and the B12 helps with energy.  It works for alot of people, and alot of people lose huge amounts of weight - however, most don't keep it off for long, which is sad.  It's about $350/week, which is alot of money to waste if you don't plan on working to keep it off.

I didn't mean to be a debbie downer.  I really hope this works for you, and that you still feel okay doing it!

actually i didn't even see your post yet, lol.  no worries.  i know it isn't a healthy diet, but i need to lose weight so bad and i always stop when i don't see results.  i'm hoping this can give me the motivation that i need.

Oh, I can pretty much guarantee that you won't approve, Colinda! LOL

Tex, listen to Colinda. She's the bomb & is helping me w/ my weight loss stuff. As much as this diet may make you lose the weight, I don't see it as a long term thing. After years of struggling, I can tell you that the slow and steady approach is the only way you will be healthy and lose weight and keep it off.

I totally relate to this. That's what started my skipping meals to lose a quick 5-10 pounds. It catches up with you. If you're going to do it to get a jump start, I suggest following Colinda's program afterward.  I totally get your need for the results but unfortunately, I don't think there's a long term quick fix for weight loss. Slow and steady wins the race.  Good luck on it.

    take that back!

while I don't approve either - I understand your frustration and want for change. I hope in the end it is the total that helps out (meaning better eating, exercise, you know the drill . . .)

I do wish you luck though.

  • So what happens when you stop shooting up and eat more than 500 calories per day? Oh ,that's right, the weight comes back on in like 5 minutes.

As briefly as I can make this, the major major problems with this are 1. it's a crutch. 2. when in semi-starvation mode, the first place the body looks for nutrition is not fat tissue, it is muscle, bone and organ mass, so while you will lose some fat, you will also lose muscle, bone and organ. This is why models are skinny fat. 3. it will destroy your metabolism. The wonder that is the human body adjusts to an abundance of food (but a limited abundance, i.e. not BOGO Oreos at Walmart, but a hearty bison kill), and it also adjusts to a lack of food. 4. If you're only eating 500 calories a day, you're going to be eating all carbs, because that's the food you can eat the most volume of. Carbs = insulin, and insulin drives fat storage. Muscle mass, prepare to meet thy demise.
