Pedi says cheerios are ok at 6 months?

We took DD for her 6 month appointment last week, and the pedi always gives us a sheet of paper with DD's progress and his recommendations. I was reading it over the other day, and he said it is ok to give DD cheerios at this point. Doesn't that seem too young? When did you start giving your LO cheerios? DH really wants to give them to her, but I'm scared to death of her choking. TIA!

    Our pedi said the same thing & I have the same concerns.  A lot of people consider Cheerios to be a "meltable solid" (meaning that it will disintegrate with your saliva).  However, they are not actually meltable.  We plan to stick with puffs until DD gets used to eating solids.

    I started at 6 months, but DD didn't do so well.  Not really choking, she just didn't want to chew them so she spit them out.  I kept trying periodically and by 8 months she was enjoying them.

    We started at 8 months.  We don't really give them to her, but she gets them at daycare all the time.

    My pedi said nothing but purees till at least 8 mo due to choking. No finger foods, puffs, cheerios, bits of food, etc. It seems like he's the only pedi that said this but I would rather be safe and listen to him and avoid a choking hazard.

    Ours said the same thing and I had the same concerns you did. We gave her Puffs for two months and she did really well with them so we just started giving her the Cheerios over the weekend.
