Dog absolutely knows I'm pregnant

We have a goldendoodle and always knew he was really smart, but now it's definitely confirmed.  Each time DH or my mom touch my stomach to feel the baby move, he runs over and nudges their hands away with his head.  I was laying on the bed yesterday and DH wanted to lay next to me and Baxter kept barking at him and blocking his way.  He absolutley knows something is going on.  I don't remember him being like this when I was pregnant with DS.  Are any of your animals acting over-protective?

Re: Dog absolutely knows I'm pregnant

  • my hound is exactly the same way. She doesn't like anyone coming between me and her right now, including DH. She also will lick the belly and sniff and listen and try to play when the baby kicks her in the head. It's cute! And one of my cats knows too - the other I think is oblivious to the world.

  • Not really over protective, but very aware of what is happening. He likes to rest his head on my belly, and baby will kick him. It is such a funny little game.

I can't wait to see them play together!?

  • Max isn't really over protective with my belly but he will not leave my side. I have almost tripped over him so many times because he follows me so closely. Sweet little dog is asleep in my lap right now. He's a good fur baby.

  • Nope. My dog is always very cuddly with me but he appears to be oblivious that there's anything different about me.
  • One of my two dogs has been more protective of me, but the past couple of days they both hardly leave my side.  I am hoping they know something I don't and maybe labor is near!

  • My lab-mix knew I was in labour with DD#2 before I did.  I'd been having contractions off and on all day but kept thinking it was just because I'd been doing too much.  He tried to climb on the bed with me when I was laying down (trying to make the contractions go away) and then tried to come in the shower with me when I was trying that.  He never gets on the bed or anything.  He also always stops jumping on me or anything before I even know I'm PG.  They totally can sense it.
  • Not overprotective but very needy. My Dog follows me everywhere now and constantly wants my attention. Its really cute

  • Our older cat Chessie is not usually very affectionate- but lately I can't get her off me.  Her head is usually resting on my belly, and her paws are on either side.  And at night she sleeps right behind my head on the pillow.

Our kitten Nora seems to be pretty oblivious, but then again, she was ALWAYS very affectionate to me.
