Book recommendations

So I was just reading through the sleep posts and all of the moms talk about methods by name. What books would you recommend that include some of these different training methods?

Oh and I want to start reading up on vaccines and I have heard good things about the Dr. Sears book, does anyone in the Buffalo area have one that I can borrow?

Re: Book recommendations

  • I can mail you my copy of the vaccine book to borrow if no one in Buffalo has it!

  • Our vaccine book is "on loan" right now...but I'll let you know when we get it back. To be honest - we reference it A LOT since it covers all childhood vaccines so it would be very worth it to purchase. It's way too much information to just read once - even if you take notes.

  • Well for sleep books..

The "ferber" book is Solve Your Childs Sleep Problems by (Richard?) Ferber.. Honestly, although we did not elect to use this method (Yet).. I found it very useful reading. I actually got it from the library.

I OWN (and will lend you if you'd like). Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child...  (another kind of CIO type.. but to me it was very hard to read/understand, and i really am not sure what the method is..

and No Cry Sleep Solution... This one I liked the premise of and weve taken some suggestions from it.. but it doesnt ALL work

  • I took Dr Sears book from the library.  Also from the library I read No Cry solution, Ferber's book, and another sleeping one that I don't remember the name to.  We aren't doing anything for sleep yet so I may re-take some of them out in a few months.
  • I would recommend Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby. I started reading it before Matthew was born and reference it all the time. They discuss different methods for different ages (by month) that you can choose from. Matthew has been sleeping through the night since 1 1/2 months and is on a regular nap schedule. I don't think we would have any of that if I hadn't read the book.

  • I have Good Night Sleep Tight.  You are more than welcome to borrow it.  It has the sleep lady shuffle.  As much as I complain about his sleep habits it did help us.  It made me realize I am waking him up more at night by picking him up instead of soothing him.  We also stopped rocking him to sleep. Just let me know
