Adoption

Saying hello

Hi ladies. As you can see from my siggie, I have been struggling with IF. I am ready to start to look into adoption but I don't know where to start. I'm interested in both domestic and international adoption. I live in NYC. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • I'm so sorry about?your?struggles :(?

A few books that have been handy for me have been Dummies Guide to Adoption, Idiot's Guide to Adoption, Adopting After Infertility (I found this one?particularly?helpful to help?gauge?if I was truly ready to move past IF), and The Kid, by Dan Savage (an entertaining read about a gay couple's domestic adoption).

  • We're doing FA, so we're not well versed in DA adoption, however the ladies on this board are great. Feel free to jump right in and ask questions! Welcome a board.

  • Ditto starting with a beginner book to get some clarity on how you want to proceed. We used Adoption for Dummies and loved it.

Check out sites like adoption.com, adoption.org, and resolve.org. They have some resources to get you started.

And don't be afraid to look at agencies outside of your home state. Some work in several states, or work across the country.

Good luck and ask lots of questions!

  • Welcome!!! I looked to the internet for all of my information. You can learn alot of info from this board as well.

Since my husband and I have had a bad experience with an adoption agency this past year we are starting to pursue private adoption on our own.

    I wish you the best.
