Do you keep track of LO's eating?

Does anyone write down the time and amount of LO's eating/sleeping schedule?  If so, how long did you do this?  I am feeding on demand, but its usually ever 2.5-3 hours and she doesn't nap well, but us usually in bed every night at the same time every night.  Is there a reason to keep written track?

Re: Do you keep track of LO's eating?

  • Yep, I did for a while. Esp when I was ready for him to get on more of a schedule (3 mo?) so I would wonder if his eating schedule dictated when and how long he slept for.

  • I have a schedule kind of.  On my days off I feed on demand if she is hungry earlier but will feed her no matter what if it gets to 3.5 hours.  Any longer and I fear I will pay for it at night.  Usually though she is asking for it every 2.5-3 hours or likes to snack earlier.

But on my days I work I leave DH instructions to feed her a bottle that I have prepared that morning of 3.5-4 ounces every 2.5-3 hours.  I also write out the times for him, example 11am, 1:30pm, 4:30pm when I work 8-6 and 1:30, 4:30, 7pm when I work 11-9.  I do this for two reasons - 1. I know she is not just sleeping in the swing all day.  2. I can plan to pump at roughly the same time she is eating so we both stay on schedule.

  • I tried to for a long time, but it got too confusing if I fed bambino and my list was in another room (I'd forget to write that feeding down).  I'd record what time, how long, and what side.  It was not a very useful resource for me, it was just a record in the early weeks to make sure I could answer any questions they might have at the pedi's office if any problems were to arise.  Thankfully nothing did, so after awhile (maybe a couple of months, but no more than that), I ditched the whole idea because it really wasn't all that useful.
  • I did for like a week & a half and then just followed his cues from there

  • We are keeping track, but that is mainly because of all of the issues that we have had.  I will probably keep track until at least his 2 month appt. and see how things are then.

  • Oh man... I feel like a complete dork... I have written down every ounce he has taken since the day we brought him home from the hospital! lol. He is now 4 1/2 months and I am still doing it! It just keeps DH and I on the same page so everyone knows when he ate last.
