1st Trimester

brown spotting and beta at 4w

I've been going crazy googling this.  The brown spotting for one day at 4w was very minimal but I was still concerned so I called my OB.  It only appeared when I wiped, there wasn't enough to need a pantyliner.  She sent me in for b/w.

Beta #1 at 4w was 69.  Beta #2 (40 hrs later) at 4w2d was 90.  Now the spotting is gone and I still have pregnancy symptoms (increased appetite & sleepy all the time).  I was told to call my OB on Monday to see what to do next.  Wondering if anyone is in the situation or has been in it.  Any feedback, positive or negative, would be greatly appreciated.  TIA!

  • Probably implantation bleeding. I had the same thing with DS around 4 weeks. And had the same thing with this pregnancy last week.

I've heard that a large bowel movement can make you have some brown spotting (from vagina) in 1st tri.  GL to you!

Really, I was thinking that 14-15dpo might be too late for implantation bleeding.  I sure hope that's what it is!

  • I went to the emergency room on Wednesday because of bleeding (now I'm seeing brown); was 6 wks 5 days, now 7wks.  They saw the little sweet pea, so everything turned out fine.  I suppose it's a "wait and see" for you right now because baby and heartbeat may not be visible via u/s.  I hope everything goes well and your spotting stops.  I have been told it's normal, but to always be seen by your doctor.  Good luck and keep us posted.  Most of all stay calm and try not to worry too much. Think happy and positive thoughts.

You are right, my OB office said it's too early for them to do an ultrasound.  I'll need to wait until I'm around 6 weeks.  Thanks for the encouragment.  I'm a little worried that my 2nd beta was lower than it should be.

It seems the second one is low, but it was only 40 hrs later.  My second beta was taken 7 days later, which was much better time span.  Don't worry little momma!  Keep positive thoughts in your head and place your hand over the lower belly...telling little poppyseed good things...cool energy, warm love.

Implantation "normally" happens 7-10dpo...but it can sometimes take a few days for that old blood (the brown) to come out. I sure hope all is well and H&H 9 months to you!
