sorta-POLL: Why do you love your OBGYN?

Hi DFW ladies!  I'm making a concerted effort to start getting more active on this board since I'm hoping we'll be starting TTC sometime in the next year.  I've been lurking for a while and post every so often, but I really want to try to get to know more of you!

So here's a question so start things off: Who is your OBGYN and why do you love him/her?

Re: sorta-POLL: Why do you love your OBGYN?

  • Dr. Garner....great bedside manner/personality, easy to talk to, personally returns phone calls (and usually within 30 minutes!).  His office staff is great, also.  Office waits were always short.

  • I don't LOVE mine.  That's why I'm asking, really.  Granted, I've only gone there for the yearly well-woman exam sort of thing which she has been great for.  My doctor is very nice, a little quiet, and very professional and matter-of-fact.  But I'm starting to question if this is what I want in an OB for my first pregnancy.  I don't even know what she thinks about med-free/intervention-free births or her c-section rate or anything. I don't really know where I stand on that stuff myself yet though.  I know I'm going to have so many questions and concerns and worries and want to be able to talk it all through with someone and feel like they understand me and I am 100% comfortable with them.

I don't dislike my doctor... just wondering what else is out there.

PS.  I see Dr. Staud at Tuscan OBGYN in Las Colinas.

  • I use Dr. Amy Sigman with Advanced Women's Healthcare at Medical City. I've been going to her for over 6 years now, and I could write a book about all the things I love about her. Truthfully, all of the female Doctors in that practice are outstanding, and I would highly recommend any and all of them....but Dr. Sigman has far surpassed all of my expectations. In addition to her great bedside manner, she always takes as much time as I need at appointments and never rushes. I never feel like she is blowing me off. She manages to be very matter-of-fact and honest but very personable at the same time. It's a combination that I very much admire in a Doctor. With my 1st pregnancy, I had pre-eclampsia and had a very rough delivery. If I'd had any other Dr. I'd have ended up with an emergency c-section (which I was terrified of at the time), but Dr. Sigman did one of the things she does best and got me and DD out of a potentially bad situation with no surgery because she knew what to do, and kept me calm. Afterwards the nurse told me point blank that if another OB had been there, I'd have been in the OR. When I was TTC for #2 I had multiple losses and over a year of unexplained infertility. She was amazing and was far more than a Doctor to me during that time. She came with me for my first sono to hear DS's heartbeat (which is not standard practice) and got teary when she saw that everything was good. When I delivered him she said to me "He's perfect, and he's the baby you were meant to have." Seriously, I could go on and on about her. My cousin and sister use her as well. My sister just moved away and is about to start TTC....she is so sad that Dr. Sigman won't be her OB. I cannot recommend her enough!
  • I've yet to find an OBGYN here in TX and i really need to so i can figure out what all my options are (VBAC or repeat c/s etc).
  • Dr Amy Sigman - Medical City.  She's wonderful.  I've been with her for 5 years and she's seen me through some rough spots.  She's very proactive with the pregnancy if that makes sense.  She is very reassuring and I'm SO glad she delivered my baby.  All was normal - she broke my waters at 9am, checked on me around noon, all was normal - I was progressing nicely and by 3pm I had a 102.7 fever and baby's bpm were above 200.  She was called and was so calm and nice - said we'd try to push once and if that didn't move baby we'd be in the OR in 10 minutes - which we were .  I was speaking with her at my 6 week appt (really 5 :) ) about it and she said it surprised her how quickly it went from normal to not so, but she wasn't going to take any chances.  Some doctors will wait things out, but she's very proactive and want to ensure the best for mom & baby.  i've met a couple of other doctors at the practice and they're also very nice.
  • Dr. Julia Flowers... one of the absolute BEST in the area. ?Unfortch, she's booked up to a year in advance (I've heard she has no availability until 2011), but she will take you if you are pregnant. ?I love her because of her amazing bedside manner, her ability to answer a question without making you feel stupid, how she does not take ANY chances on ANYthing, how she wants you to 100% be comfortable in L&D and at home afterwards, how she delivers ALL of her patients (literally) and you ONLY see her when you go to her office (not another doctor(s)). ?She's at Baylor Grapevine and if you can get into her, I would do it in a heartbeat. ?She's amazing.
  • Dr. Randall Chee-Awai....he is the best.  He specializes in difficult pregnancies.  He has the best attitude and he has an amazing bedside manner.  You can ask him anything and you can tell him to give it to you straight and he will do just that.

I love him - wouldnt have any other doctor - Ever...

Ditto ... I go to Dr. G as well ....

  • Dr. Walters.  I love her because of her friendly, laid back attitiude.  She let me ask questions, let me express my fears/concerns, let me make choices for me and my baby without pressure or judgement.  I looked forward to my appointments and by the end of the whole process, I felt like she was a friend.  :)

  • I see Dr McIntire at Frisco Ob/Gyn.  I love, love, love her!  I found out that i have a clotting disorder when I was pregnant.  I was suddenly high-risk, and she calmed my nerves immediately.  She's very laid back and easy to talk to.  If she's not comfortable with something, she will be the first to admit it and send you to a dr that is.  She was amazing during my crazy labor and delivery and made a point to stop in and check on Reese every day that she was in the nicu (in fact, her medical assistant checked on her a few times, too)

And finally, she and I are both bulldog owers, so we always have something to talk about :)

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine!  She's Dr. Amy Martin and she's close to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.  She has a wonderful bedside manner & always makes me feel like I'm her only patient.  She answers all my questions even if I think they're dumb.  She spends as much time as I need her to with me.  I don't keep her forever, but I feel like I get all her attention when she's with me.

  • Dr. Julia Flowers - the reasons are endless

i chose her on the recommendation of my godsister and after meeting her, instantly knew that i loved her

the thing that sold me was how she was 110% committed to helping me have the birth i wanted - i really wanted a natural child birth and am COMPLETELY terrified of having a c-section - when i told her i wanted a natural birth, she didn't question me at all and immediately recommended 2 fantastic doulas - when we induced at 41 weeks, she personally called me to make sure that i felt okay with it and reassure me that she would still do everything in her power to make sure that i got the birth that i wanted - during my labor and delivery she made sure that i understood everything that was going and there were no surprises

also, with my first pregnancy everything was textbook perfect and while this one hasn't been bad, it's been very different - for some reason i'm much more anxious and hormonal this time and every time i go in, she has to talk me down - she never makes me feel crazy (cause i feel that way enough on my own!) and never bats an eye when i ask her something stupid - plus, she isn't at all concerned that i've gained 30 some odd pounds in 25 weeks! Wink

I use Dr. Sigman as well and couldn't agree more!! I absolutely love her. She has a great bedside manner, is very patient with my million questions, and never seems like she's in a rush.  I haven't had my baby yet but feel very comfortable and confident that she'll do a great job.

I also see Dr. McIntire as Frisco Obgyn & also Dr. Petrovski.  I love both of them.  They are easy to talk to and are always looking out for you.

  • Dr Guy Van Dell in Flower Mound - he has the same sense of humor the H and I have and 'gets' our jokes.  Plus all of the office staff have been super nice to me and always call me back quickly.

I'm seeing Dr. Petrovski as well and so far I really like her.  I haven't gone through a pregnancy or L&D with her yet, but I have the utmost confidence in her and I'm high-risk for this pregnancy.
