Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How many times are you going to redecorate kid's room?

I keep seeing posts about "big kid" rooms... they're a year old. Has his/her style really changed so much? Is it only the moms with babies on the way? In which case, I wonder why are you switching rooms?

Or is this just a compulsive need to redecorate?

Just curious, this isn't an attack or anything!

  • With DS1 we changed his room when he was 3 yrs old.  And than again 2 years ago because he switched rooms.  And he is 9 now so it was a little babish.  With DS2 we dont plan on it until around 3 again.

  • Well for us, DD is in the nursery.  When I get pregnant with #2, she will move out of the nursery and into the other bedroom.

In that case, I will have to decorate it because right now we haven't touched it since we moved in.  It needs wallpaper removed and some paint.

  • I keep dreaming about DS's big boy room while I flip through the pbk catalog.  We won't do it until we have another one on the way though.  DS will move into the guest room and it will be redecorated for him.
  • I changed DDs room from girly to neutral when I was preg with DS since they shared a room for the first 10mos. Now that I've moved DS into his own room, I'm slowly redoing her room. She wants a princess theme, but I'm not repainting it at this point, it's a light green with pink bedding.

DSs room is still white since he shares a room in the office. I plan on just painting it a solid light blue and leaving it at that.

Oh, ok, that I can understand. I just assumed that kids stayed in the same room. We don't have a special nursery room.

  • We will be redoing DS's room when we move next summer.  If I didn't know we where moving I would be redoing it right now.  Mine is just a compulsion to re do stuff.  I am going nuts right now, because I refuse to buy anything new for the place we live in right now.  Our next move will be our last move for a long time, so I am waiting to buy stuff for our new house.
  • I went with blue bright colors with his name on the wall.  It's also just an accent wall, the stripes don't go the whole way around so it will be easy to change/update.  I plan on only changing it when he asks to change it.  That being said, we might be moving next summer so of course he'll get a new room design.  My nieces who are 3, 5 & 8 all love his room.  So who knows, he may not want to change it at all for long while.

  • We moved into a new house a few months ago, so we're getting ready to decorate Zachary's big boy room.  He never really had a nursery though because we lived in a 1-br condo until he was 6 months, and then in a rental for a few months.  This is the first time we're decorating a room for him.

  • I never decorated,  I was not blessed with the decorating gene.

ditto.  i would get run off the board if i posted a pic of my "nursery."

  • LOL.  Me too BW.  I't just furniture thrown in there in a random way and then a diaper pail in a corner. Voila!

I never even bothered to hang his name again when we moved.

  • I don't really get it, either. ?We're putting the new baby in her own room (our current guest room) and DS will stay in his room. ?I don't plan to change his room much until he's quite a bit older and requests a change, but we also didn't go really babyish with it so maybe that makes a difference.

  • DD is getting a 'big girl' room because we just moved into a house ... and its not really the best. The room is purple but there are patches that need to be repainted. Its going to be green... very green but a cute color! This is it until maybe she is 5/6 and she can pick out new bedding and such then for a birthday gift.
