We are going to attempt letting Ethan CIO. This is a last resort. It's so much harder to put him down now that he pulls himself up. It's as though that is all that is on his mind. I watched him pull himslef up while he was 1/2 asleep and he just fell back down. Please don't flame me. We've been having sleep issues for a long time and this is far from being the "easy way out". He doesn't know how to put himself asleep or soothe himself. Having the video monitor is really nice b/c I watched him sit down and just whine. Now it's just a moan and he is laying down. It's only been 12 minutes.
Re: Wish me luck
You can do it! I know how much you've struggled with your decision, so good luck! I 100% believe you would only do what is right for Ethan b/c you're such a caring mom. This will make things soooo much easier for you once he learns to put himself to sleep.
btw- if anyone flames a mom having baby-sleep problems they are a complete turd. I think you're "safe" on this board
No flames here, just HUGS and support. Honestly, CIO was the best decision we ever made. We went from up 5-6x/night to nurse at 15 months old to sleeping 11-12 straight hours! And it was a huge change in just a few days. It's worth it! Just stay strong.
m/c 1/2/08 and 3/12/08
Eve Amelia- Born 2/24/09. 6lb 9.9oz
Natalie Ruth - Born 6/13/11 7lb 6.6oz
Good luck! It doesn't sound like an easy decision for you to come to but I think you'll be proud of your boy, especially when you'll both be sleeping better soon.
Great point! It does make you feel so proud when you can lay him down, and watch him on the monitor find his lovey, talk to himself for a little while, get comfy with his pillow, and fall fast asleep without a single tear!
It's not easy, but the results are so worth it. I went through 7 months of sleepless nights, and the first night we tried Ferber Rosie fell asleep for 10 hours after 12 minutes of fussing. She's pretty much slept ever since. Hang in there, good luck!
Good luck!
Seems to me most moms have a choice between stressing out, getting upset, losing sleep...and sleep training. Seems like a no-brainer to me! : )
It's the best thing we EVER did!!!
