Babies on the Brain

DH has NEVER made me breakfast (super vent)

DH always suggests that "we" make breakfast, but "we" really means "me."  I've accepted this, since he doesn't do a great job in the kitchen anyway, but today was the last freaking straw.

He suggested that "we" make breakfast (he's off for Election Day), and I thought that was a nice idea since I eat oatmeal pretty much exclusively throughout the day.  I go into the kitchen, start making food, pop toast into the toaster oven, and ask him to do ONE. FREAKING. THING.

"Can you butter the toast when it comes out, please?"

He has white toast and I have wheat.  My wheat was in first and done first.  I saw him buttering, so I thought that meant my toast was done too.  I always have buttered toast, he knows this, we've been together for years.

I finish the eggs, serve them, take the baby into the living room to play and go back into the kitchen to see him leaving with his plate.  His breakfast is finished, I assume mine is...nope.  He never bothered to butter my toast.  Over 5 minutes have passed since it came out of the toaster and it's cold now.  I have to re toast it and butter it.

By the time my breakfast is ready he's finished eating.  What happened to a nice  breakfast together?  Not going to happen.  Ok, then.  It's not like I don't do tons of work all day with the babe and keeping the house in order.

Sigh, I guess he just doesn't understand that.

  • that's just not cool. Dh will sometimes make him a sandwich or something when he gets home and not make me anything. I am just sitting there like, uh...where is mine? And then he always says, "oh, are you hungry?"

  • I think DH needs a good Scrotum Twist-n-Squeeze. How do you like your  buttered toast now, jerk?

  • Gently point it out later when you've cooled down. I usually find that mine doesn't know what he has done when he does *** like that, he's just distracted and on autopilot.

  • Oh, I did tell him off.  I had to wait until he went into the back where the office is, so I didn't upset Ryder.  I shut the hallway door and really let him have it.  I'm sick of this sh!t!  I work my butt off all day and he doesn't even do a simple thing like butter toast for me!!

    GRRR!

I've gone that route before (it's usually what I do in situations like this), but he just doesn't understand.  it takes a lot to make me go from easy-going girl to crazy b!tch, and he really did it this time.

It's just a bunch of things all piled up and I can't take it.  He thinks that staying home with the baby is easy work.

  • This is why I rather go to the diner.  I hardly cook, DH is even worse.  We either eat at the diner or the deli down block that makes great sandwiches.

(because since pregnant, cereal does not hold me over very long...)

  • One time DH did that when we first got married.

I didn't make him dinner for a week.

He learned quickly how I operate.

  • Whenever DH does something selfish like that I ask him where mine is (even if I dont want any).  I always ask if he wants/needs something and I'm trying to get him in the same habit.  Its taking a while, but hes getting it...maybe.

  • The only thing that works for me and DH is setting up responsibilities in advance.  Weekly, we decide what we want to eat and who is going to cook it.  Whoever doesn't cook does dishes.  I cook dinner almost every night and almost never cook breakfast.  It's a bit labor intensive to decide this stuff every week but it has eliminated a LOT of the issues that used to lead to our fights.  I found that I was starting to resent the fact that I do almost all the "domestic" stuff with no help, so this has alleviated some of that.

Oh and I second the nut punch for your DH. Big Smile

    Sadie is not impressed.
