how important are matching siblings to you?

is it more important to have your kids names "go together" or to pick the name you love the most?

my first 3 have something of a theme and i'm struggling to find a name to "fit" with theirs. it's adding tons of stress, trying to figure out if #4's name has to match the others or not.

DH doesn't think it really matters and that we should name the baby as an individual. WDYT?

I think names should be somewhat similar in style but not matchy or have a theme. It would be odd to have a unique name like Gunner (yes, I know someone that named their son that) with a traditional name like Jane. I think most names just end up being similar in style because the parents have a preference to their naming style - they aren't suddenly going to like a trendy name after naming 2 kids super traditional names.

My sons will be Joseph and Conrad and if we ever have a girl, we like Evelyn. Clearly we are traditional. I doubt with another pregnancy I will suddenly develop a desire to name a kid Raine or Piper.

I wouldn't really call it "matching" but it was pretty important to me that their names sound good together. But, we don't really have a theme for names, just names we liked that we thought sounded good together and are similar styles.

What would you consider your previous pattern to be? I'm not making a connection to a certain 'style' with your names. Isabella is both traditional and trendy (these days), Anthony is traditional, Rocco seems more trendy or unique IMO. With that in mind, I'd say just about anything goes.

I wouldn't worry too much about them matching since it's not like you named your previous three with an obvious theme (that I can recognize), like Biblical names or whimsical nature inspired names. Wink (I imagine a Summer, Winter, Autumn, and Mary lol!)

I agree with your DH, name them as an individual in this case.

I think your "theme" is Italian names....

That being said, I would defiantly stick with the theme (a bit) since this is the 4th. I like your choices that have the same feel, but a nn that can take on a different feel if you like. Juliana- Jules/Julia/Julie Francesca- franie/frankie Luciana- Lulu/Luci etc.

Just name it what you want. To be quite honest, I don't notice any theme with your first three kids' names. You've got classic/trendy Isabella, 6yr old has classic name, and Rocco is more of a unique name.

Well... with the three previous Italian names, I do think it would sound strange if you named #4 Addison (which is one of the suggestions in your name list). That said, I don't think that baby #4 has to have an Italian name, but having an uber-trendy name like Addison/Madison/etc. would sound odd. I'd stick with solid, classic names -- Italian or not.

Thank you all so much! While I keep thinking that they're all "Italian" I guess they really aren't. I think Rocco even has a Germanic/Italian roo. Besides..in the unlikely event we have a 5th child one day I wouldn't want to be reeeeally painted into a corner, name-wise! lol!

I think maybe as long as I pick a girls name that's as pretty and feminine as Isabella, they'll be ok. I'd hate to have DD2 wonder why she got the "boys" name or why Isabella got the "pretty" one. You know?

I think #3 (if a girl) should have a unisex name just like our girls.... however DH doesn't like any I toss out to him....

I think it's better to have a name you love. That being said, I agree with PP that names seem to go together because of your taste!

I've never understood the need for "matchy" or "themed" family names. Name your kids what you want.

It's not. Just like I don't care if they have matching hair or eye color. Their names will fit them as an individual person.

Eh, I think if you find names that you love, your own personal naming style will shine through and they'll end up having names that sound good together. I think all of your kids' names so far fit together nicely, but I don't necessarily think you need to pick an Italian name for your new baby. Just go with a name you love!

I don't think sibling names should "match". I hate when people go out of their way to use the same letter for all their kids names. You should just go with whatever name you like. However, I agree with PP that sibling names should be similar in style. For example, Frances and Neveah would sound ridiculous together. Out of the two names in your poll, I think Jocelyn sounds great with your other kids names.

I think it's important that kids have a sense of individuality, so it's not important to me that they "match" per se. I do, though, like for them to complement each other reasonably well, so that no one name sticks out like a sore thumb. If one name choice stands out against the others, or just kind of shrinks, I would consider something else.

I mean, take the Jolie-Pitts for example. Decent names, a little uncommon. If they were to have a kid and name it Jane, it wouldn't fit very well. Lets say you've got a family with Jeremy, Kevin, and Alison. I think Roberta, Cheyenne, Sigmund, and River might clash with these.

I think they should go together meaning one shouldn't be a very trendy name and the other I very traditional/old fashioned. Caden and Henry as brothers sound strange to me. Henry and George sound good together though.
