Mushroom help? (landscaping)

I just came home from a two week vacation back home and found a huge patch of mushrooms growing in my yard. They're not in the grass, but in the dirt area of my yard. What can I do to get rid of them? Would digging them up do the trick? Oh and what about a massive amount of weeds? I was thinking of getting roundup, I think my neighbor would apply it for me since I'm pg and all.

    You could probably dig them up.  But if you don't kill the main one (which can be up to even a mile away for some types) they'll keep coming back as weather permits for them.  Vinegar and boiling water on the weeds though seems to work pretty nice.

    Really? vinegar on weeds? What an idea! I will try that before spending money :-)

    Shrooms/mold will grow in area of moisture and is normal for the decomposition of the materials in the ground. So for now, just go ahead and remove it. If it keeps coming up, you're going to need to dig up that area and turn it.

    As for the weeds, are they in the grass or are they in like "beds?" If they are in the grass, use fertilizer just on the spots where the weeds are. If they are in beds, are they around other plants? If so, I suggest just pulling the weeds but get deep down to ensure you get the roots out too. If it's in an area that it doesn't matter if things need to grow, Roundup will kill them quick but it's really harmful stuff for the environment (think runoff). Just an FYI.

    well, roundup is about as un-ef as you can get. it seeps into groundwater, contaminates soil, and is overused by the general public. not to mention it's owned by monsanto, a corporation that is slowly edging out independent and organic farmers by using genetically modified seeds. 

    the best way to get rid of weeds in an ef-manner is simply to dig them out--take care not to shake the weeds or roots as that's how they seed. you can also pour vinegar on them or boiling water. or wait for winter--they should go away!

    for the mushrooms, they are a fungus so whatever they touch has a chance of getting contaminated. dig the roots out deeply and toss them. then wash whatever tool you used. and your hands, too!

    Thanks for the suggestions! I know roundup is un-EF but I know it works. I will try the vinegar/boiling water first and see how that goes. They are huge weeds and all in the dirt area, that is supposed to be wood chipped for prettiness which I will do in the spring. Guess I have lots of digging today as I have two large patches of mushrooms...ugh.

    I leave mushrooms alone. As soon as it starts to dry out, they'll go away.

    I'd just pull some weeds every day until they're up. I hate using Roundup, but DH seems to think it's the cure for everything *sigh*

    Drying up doesn't happen in Washington until about April or May...LOL
