New York Babies

XP: NYC Moms, Please help with maternity shop rec's!

Please help - I am really stuck! We're going on a cruise next week, leaving our home upstate on Monday, and spending a night in NYC before we board the boat.

The cruise is very formal - dh is wearing his tuxedo. I ordered two dresses from Isabella Oliver Maternity almost three weeks ago and they are not here - so much for their "5 day" delivery. Anyway, I am now stuck. I have NOTHING to wear and I need formal maternity wear fast. I was hoping to keep it under $200 per dress, and I am not comfortable in anything too revealing. I'm also not super skinny. I'm not a plus size, but probably a L or XL, depending on brand. This means that most of the tiny european makes are not so good for me.

I have one afternoon in NYC. Where can I go? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Oh, and I used to live in NYC so I know the city pretty well and can get around fast if I need to. I'd rather not leave the City, but could manage B'klyn if there are good places. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Rosie Pope on Madison around 90th & Veronique on Madison & 93rd have a GREAT selection of formal dresses.  I got so many compliments on the dresses I wore from there.  I thought Destination Maternity (on 57th & Madison ) was very overpriced & the clothes there looked & felt cheap.
  • as of last year, I think the Liz Lange store on the Upper East Side has closed.  It's possible that it has reopened...
I second Veronique - beautiful maternity clothing.  I bought a couple of dresses to wear for weddings while I was pregnant last year.  Have fun shopping and on the cruise!
  • 58th and Madison-  There is a Destination Maternity there.  In one shop it's Motherhood Maternity, Pea in the Pod, and Mimi Maternity so you will have LOTS of options!  Good luck!
