I seriously cut down my Xmas list...

I had a seriously huge list of things I wanted for this Xmas, but the number one thing I really wanted was a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF-2 lesne. Only problem is they are about $400. I tied to find an alternative but short of learning to shoot in manual, there isn't any. My mom said she'd buy it but she normally only spends about $300 on me and I feel bad enough about that now that she spoils are kids so much.

Plus, there is some expensive stuff I want to suprise DH with (a weekend trip to Chicago to see the Reds play the Cubs with his dad) and a new work bench he's been talking about building in the garage.

So I cut down my Xmas list to just these:

-BecoButterfly II from my parents
-produce bags from my grandma
-cloth napkins from my uncle
-canning supplies from DH's parents
-lens and Vera Bradely bag from DH and kids
-and gift certificate for sewing classes from my other grandma

Yes, I'm pretty boring as everyone justs asks me what I want, but hey, this is pretty much the only time of the year I actually buy stuff for myself. My mom also takes me clothes shopping the day after Xmas as the rest of my gift which is always fun and a special time for us.

  • I just wish I knew what to tell people when they asked what I want - I can never figure it out.  I'm thinking knitting supplies this year, although everything I want is online, and not everyone shops online.

  • I totally know what you mean. I was the same way so this year we kept a list on the fridge over the year of things we wanted, but could wait to get. It was nice to have as when it came time and when people I asked and I knew the range they wanted to spend, I could find something to tell them to get.

Thankfully my family understands the whole internet thing now too. So usually my mom will tell them she'll order it and they can pay her back for it when it comes in and they are perfectly happy, or my grandma will go to my moms at lunch and she'll order it with my grandma looking over her shoulder at the computer screen.

  • LOL!  Who one-starred this thread??

    HAHAHAA!

I asked for a bunch of stuff this year, but the biggest items are a ball winder/swift, and a lighted vanity mirror from Sephora.  My list has everything from a $3 pencil sharpener to the biggies from knitpicks and Sephora.  Believe it or not, I'm actually dying to get that stinkin' pencil sharpener.  lol

  • Ugh...Christmas gifts.  Haven't even given it any thought yet.  It is my favorite holiday though - both the religous significance plus I love giving gifts.  =)

  • My list is really light this year.  I haven't even really made one.  Sure I would love a new camera and a steam mop but what I really want it to be healthy enough to host Christmas Eve.  And it's looking like that won't happen.

(hugs)  You're on the journey, though.  Next year!!  I hope you get to enjoy some pampering this year for Christmas Eve.

Totally understand! Hosting Xmas was actually my #1 gift b/c DH does not like to throw parties at all. We compromised with me hosting thanksgiving instead. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful Xmas regardless of who hosts and hopefully you'll be as good as new by next year!

  • Wow, the gift givers in your family are GENEROUS! Especially given the economy. If this is "cut down"...wow.

Hope you get what you want :)

  • DH and I are giving each other a two day break (with DS) in Munich during our three week mega trip to the IL's... so there's our Christmas shopping for each other done. I already helped my mom pick out a leather bag for DH which I think he'll love. No idea what we'll do for DS yet, he's getting his balance bike from my parents for his birthday. We're not exchanging in the gift exchange with my siblings this year since we'll be in Ireland... DH's family gives crap gifts so unless my MIL buys us more china I'm pretty sure I'll dislike whatever I get. I should think of something to ask for from my parents but I think I'll need maternity clothes so will just stick to that! haha... Very lame Chrsitmas here this year.

Very lame Xmas......are you serious! How lucky that you'll be in Ireland though and then a little get away to Munich. Hope you have a blast!
