3rd Trimester

Growth U/S, 35 wks+

I was reading WTEWYE and it said about 5 1/2 lbs for 35 weeks.  My little turkey measured just shy of 7 lbs yesterday.  I know they can be off, but I have GD and dreading a 9+ pounder.  What was your weight u/s around 35 wks?

  • I haven't had a growth u/s and my doctor hasn't said anything about how much he thinks the baby will weigh. This scares me because my mom ended up with a 10 lb. 2 oz. baby (my brother) who the doctors kept saying would be too small. They even sent her to a specialist because they thought he was going to be abnormally small! FI was almost 10 lbs. too. FML.

  • The book just has the averages in it and late groth ultrasounds can be pretty inaccurate, up to 2 lbs. I've heard. So don't worry, as long as you've had your GD under control you'll be fine.
  • I actually just had one yesterday at 35 weeks exactly and the baby was measuring at 5 lbs. 2 oz.  They said that it was in the 26% for weight at this point and that baby would gain around 1/2 pound a week for the next four weeks.  They are predicting a 7 lb. to 7 1/2 lb. baby for us.  I've also read and heard from tons of people that these measurements can be off by quite a bit and the only real way to determine if vaginal delivery is possible is to actually go into labor and see how things progress.  Try not to worry too much.  I mean there's really nothing that we can do about it anyway, right?!

I've also seen friends' estimates from their doctors be off by 1-2 lbs, so I wouldn't be too worried. It's always just an estimate.

  • My 33 week u/s said 6 lbs 6 oz +/- 15oz

    My 37 week u/s said 9 lbs 2 oz

Both times the weight and %iles put me 3 weeks ahead which is not possible - he's just big.

My midwife says by palpitation the baby is about 8 lbs 4 oz.

She also said the baby's head is already in the pelvic cavity which means that it will fit through.  I was 9lbs 4oz and DH was 10lbs so we're expecting between 9 and 10.

  • He was right at 6 lbs. according to them, so we will see. He was in the 51st percentile.
  • 36w2d was 6lb 14oz

  • at my 36 wk appt. my midwife felt around like she usually does on my belly and said he was probably around 5lbs, not 6. He was measuring a little behind but had a growth spurt. I'm not sure how accurate she can be just by feeling but i'm thinking he's in the 5lb range.
