Pregnant after a Loss

NBR: Bummed vent

Super bummed..today I got talked to about my "frequent restroom breaks" and apparently my boss is upset about it as I'm the receptionist and have to find someone to cover the phones for me each time I go. I didn't want to tell my boss about the pregnancy until we were well into the 2nd trimester--at least until after Monday's NT scan/ultrasound. So now I have to meet with him and explain what's going on. And hopefully he will be understanding about it. I guess I just get freaked out each time I tell someone because of what happened last time- I never want to have to untell again. :( But now I feel like I HAVE to explain since he is getting mad about all the restroom breaks, etc. Oh well. I just think it stinks. I also have diabetes and have had to go to the endocrinologist weekly for insulin, etc, so I guess I could let him think the frequent restroom breaks are because of the diabetes--but I don't really want him to think I've let my diabetes go out of control when in reality, my dream of having a baby is coming true and I have to take insulin because my OB doesn't approve of the metformin, etc. Just upset that now it's not my choice when to tell him--now I have to tell him because of this.

okay vent over.

  • Well, even if it wasn't your intention to tell yet, this is probably a good person to have to tell. I'm sure he'll be understanding.

  • Your ticker isn't loading for me, so I'm not sure how far along you are.  But I think it's good to tell him.  The bathroom breaks aren't going to stop and you'll have more doctor's appts.  They'll be more understanding if they know.  Good luck!

  • Bummer about the timing, but it's always good to let the boss know.  When I was pregnant this summer, my boss was talking to me about something and I just started crying for no reason, lol, so I HAD to tell him I was pregnant to explain the crying.  He was soooo understanding and made sure to check on me constantly and made sure I was rested and eating enough, lol, his wife just had a baby and he was still in overprotective husband mode, I guess.  It was funny.  Not my timing, but it worked out.  I hope your meeting goes well.

ETA: My boss was also one of the most supportive when I had my m/c (this isn't my regular job boss, it's my boss from the summer camp I work at)

  • I agree with pp's - it's probably a good idea to tell your boss.  I was totally freaked out about telling anyone when I was early on, but I knew if something happened my bosses would find out either way.  Plus, I had frequent dr's appts. early on, and my bosses would not have been so understanding about them if they hadn't known what was going on.  GL, I'm sure your boss will totally understand when you tell him!
