We have been looking for a good deal on a highchair. This one would be about an hour away, unless the seller wants to meet us somewhere with it. The only thing I would need is a pad and strap...I can't sew though. If I bought it would someone be interested in making me a cover? MTOW, poocino....(didn't you ladies make covers/straps for your chairs?)

Could you just tie a string or ribbon or something for a "strap"? It works in my head, but might not in reality.

As for a pad, I wouldn't even bother with it if it would end up being expensive or something. I would just use a blanket (or more than 1, if needed) until she could sit up well and be comfortable without something in there.

And yes, as long as it's in good condition, I would buy it!

I would I saw one similar to that in a consignment store for 40.00 w/o a pad or strap...

It's really pretty and a good price. The only thing I would worry about is safety since it doesn't say brand or how old or anything. I could be missing it in the picture but I don't see anything that goes between the legs to keep the LO from slipping out from under and tray and I think that's pretty important.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy it. My parents have one almost exactly like that, although they paid nearly $300 for it at an antique store (they are nuts, I know!). I actually paid the money to have a nice pad and straps made for it from a local amish furniture place my parents deal with in Hamilton I think. Yeah, another $70. Luke didn't even fit into it until he was about 6-7 months and even then it was way too big for him. He really started fitting into it good by about 11 months I'd say but by then we couldn't get him to stay seated in it. The straps on the thing I had made wouldn't go small enough to hold him in so we had to start tying a belt around it.

If you watch for prices you can get it for around $35 new. I've got an old one you can have but it needs cleaned real good. I was going to donate it...

I like it, but I wouldn't drive an hour for it. If she would meet you halfway I would go for it!

I got one at a garage sale for about the same price. I am going to sew cushions covered with oilcloth so that I can wipe them clean in case of spills.

Depending where in Independence that seller lives, she could be a good bit more than an hour from you. I live near Independence and it would take close to an hour just to get to West Chester. Maybe that will help you decide- Ikea would be a lot closer!

I would buy it for $10, but maybe see if the seller could meet you half way. I have an old wooden high chair that I painted. I still haven't sewn a cushion for it, but in the meantime, I am using a shopping cart/restuarant high chair cover. The one I have is really simple and is not one of those fluffy, bunchy ones with elastic around the edges. It's just a seat and back cushion with a strap that goes around the waist. It works so well, I might never get around to sewing a cushion.

I have a wooden Amish highchair ($150) and we don't use a cover or pad. I sewed one and used it in the beginning, but it was always so dirty, that I found it to be easier to just not use one.

Mine does have a strap between the legs though so he can't fall out that way. He is "close" to being able to stand up and climb out so that will be an issue fairly soon.

Is your DD sitting up well on her own? Or are you going to wait a few months before using it? If it doesn't recline, she needs to be able to independly sit. My daughter is a Houdini, so just a lap strap would never keep her in the highchair, ours has shoulder and waist straps. Maybe you could find something on etsy for a cover/strap combo?
