1st Trimester

Motivation/Creativity...Where'd You Go?

Does anyone else feel so much less motivated now that you're pregnant? When I'm at my studio, I don't want to do anything! I'm a photographer, and I almost feel a little stifled creatively, as well. Just me? Or is this pretty common? Maybe it's in my head, and I'm just looking for an excuse... :)

  • You are definitely not alone in that sentiment; I'm not in a creative profession so I can only imagine how difficult it is when you're not inspired. My job is pretty cut and dry and straighforward, but I still find it more difficult to focus now that I'm pregnant. I just want to read my pregnancy books and be on the boards all day!

  • Same here!  I work in purchasing and I have to tell you, I cant concentrate to save my life!  I just want to sleep all the time at this point!

Being in your profession, I can only imagine how hard being "creative" must be.  Hang in there, all will change come your second tri!

  • Don't worry. I think it's completely normal to feel distracted when you're newly pregnant, especially if it's your first baby. Heck, this is my second and I've lost all interest in the projects I've been working on for my home. I think as your sense of "normal" adjusts and this pregnancy becomes less new for you, you'll find that your creativity comes back, especially in the second trimester when your energy returns. Good luck!
  • NO, your not alone. I am in a creative profession as well and I'm really struggling. I can't concentrate, nor can I get too terribly creative. It stinks, especially when I have 10 projects to finish and I just don't have the gumption. Oh well I guess.

  • I've felt a little more energetic after work over the last few days, and it seems my interest in creative projects is returning. I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago, and I also work in a creative field-marketing and graphic design. I think it'll get better for you when you get a little further along.
