2nd Trimester

So i think i might have strep throat

I woke up 2 days ago with a sore throat, since then its been getting more painful (keeping me from my sleep) The back of my throat is red with some white patches, I have no cough, no nasal congestion. Just really sore ears and throat. OH yah I'm also losing my voice.

I've never had strep throat before but I'm starting to think maybe I should go see a dr. I know that if it was a vial infection I'd have a cough and nasal symptoms.

Anyone else had this?

  • Yes you need to go to the doctor for strep - it will get really bad without antibiotics!

  • The white patches make me think you really need to go see te dr. I don't think its strep it sounds like that other one, the kissing disease, pregnancy brain is striking on its name.

  • Yes! As a kid I got it frequently.  And I had it when I was about 9 weeks pregnant with DD #1.  A little antibiotics fixed me up fast!
  • oh you poor thing- thats def an infection. last friday i had the same thing and ended up with tonsilitis (not strep- i tested negative for that). ive been on amoxicillin for it.

  • All you have to do is say the word "strep" and I get it :)

The red throat with white patches is pretty much the tell tale sign. I would head into the doctor for a throat culture and some antibiotics, you'll be feeling better in a day or so.

And just be careful - strep is really contagious until after you have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.

    Feel better soon!

  • Yes, go to the doctor! They'll swab your throat and see if it's infected, it takes 5 minutes. You'll need medication to get over this, it won't clear on it's own.
