120 students absent or "excluded" from class due to flu.

In my school we had 120 absent or excluded students. Anyone with a fever is sent home and can not return until they are fever free for 48 hours WITHOUT medication. An elementary school in the district has already been shut down for the rest of the week. I have no idea how I have been able to miss any of the germs. Not even a cold! This is craziness. I have never experienced anything like this before. We are instructed to spray everything down with Lysol at the end of the day, so I have a large can on my desk. Students started spraying their clothes! I told them not to, but man it is only October.

  • It is crazy. There were 350 students absent from my son's school one day last week and there are less than 1000 in the whole school. Of course, my son was one of those absent home with Swine Flu :(

  • Wow, that's crazy!  I'm surprised the school is still open!  Don't they have to close at a certain # of absentees?

  • It's seriously so sucky. My DD's school got hit hard and I have bad bronchitis and Natalie has pneumonia. We feel like crap! Ugh!
  • They line up at the nurses office each morning. One student looked sick this afternoon, but said "Oh, I've had the flu for like 3 days now and am already over the throwing up phase. I'm fine." All this while hacking all over his desk and repeated trips to the tissue box. I've obviously been exposed, but for some reason I'm lucky. Just crossing my fingers that my kids get the vaccine next week at the clinic that I sch. an appointment for.
