Things have a funny way of working out (mat leave/work)

I approached my boss today about reducing my work hours from 35 to 28 (from 5 days to 4), once I return form maternity leave. My agency is generally very bad about making special arrangements for people so, I planned to request it for a three month trial in hopes that it would end up permanent.

As it turned out, my boss was about to ask me about reducing my week to 4 days when I return because of the state of our business finances and the need to cut back on some personnel hours.

Strange how things sometimes work themselves out. I'll find out tomorrow after his budget meeting whether this proposal will be a go and, if so, when it will begin (possibly before my leave).
