Hello , I wanted to get your opinion on this name for a girl: Thalia or Talia? The story behind it is that I want to name my future child in honor of my grandma whose name was Tanya ( I have russian background) and I am desperate to use letter T for the name. T has to be the hardest letter to use for either boy or girl, but name Talia ( or Thalia) really grew on me. I could use a nickname Talya, which I like. What do you think of this name? Does it bring association with Natalia? ( I do not want that). Also, talia in russian means "waist", so I am confused. Thank you
Re: Talia/Thalia
after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!
IT'S A GIRL!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
I really love the name Thalia! It does not make me think Natalia at all - they are 2 different names.
I am a little confused about Talya as a nn, though. How is that different or shorter? I think Thalia is beautiful on its own and doesn't need a nn.
I think it's a pretty name, and I prefer the Talia spelling because the Th would make me think of pronouncing it like the word thick.
My friend's sister is named Taline and I think that's gorgeous. She's Armenian so I'm assuming the name is too.
OP here: I also prefer spelling Talia, and I was just thinking Talya as a shorter version of it, but one of the posters here mentioned that Talya is beautiful on its own, and now that I think of it, I agree.
What is a middle name to go with it? Our last name is Shore. Thank you
Talia.
And I don't see how Talya is a nn for Talia or Thalia.
I went to school with a girl named Taileah (that's how she spelled it). I always thought it was a pretty name.
I know a Talia who pronounces it like TAL-ya and a Thalia who pronounces it Ta-LEE-ya. Which would you use?
Actually, I like both.
My 2 year old niece's name is Talia (pronounced like Natalia, but her full name is just Talia). I think it's very pretty, somewhat unique, not weird.
Like others, confused about the "nn" Talya. Isn't that the exact same pronounciation as Talia?
Anyway, I like it.
I love the name Talia (not too keen on Thalia)....it is also my cousin's name. We don't use a nn though.
Also, I teach a little girl named Tayla. If you like that nn, maybe you should just use it as her full name.
Lots of luck!
