It just hit me that DH is going back to work this week and I will be left to handle the household by myself..Yikes! Thats a scary thought for me, parenting for two is different than I thought it would be even though DD is almost 5 she needs a lot of attention with school work and such and to have DS now thrown in the mix with nursing and cookig meals, and the dogs I think I may lose my mind before he even goes back just thinking about it, and its not like he works a 9 to 5 and comes home at the end of the day he is gone all but one day in a week maybe two if I'm lucky....I think the reality of this just hit me and now I'm going how am I going to do this?? any words of advice that you ladies can spare?
Re: I'm going to lose my mind
It's very scary, but I would totally enlist the help of your little girl. She's old enough where she can totally help mommy. Help her with her homework when ds is asleep.
You guys will get into a routine the same way you did with dd when she was born.

Hang in there. I nearly lost my mind last year this time when I was in your situation. I freaked out wondering what the heck I was going to do with 4 y.o. DD all day, with an infant.
I figured out pretty quickly that DD needed to fend for herself sometimes. I tried to have some activities for her to do, but I also got her used to the idea of a little "quiet time" in her room. The first few days proved disasterous (like when she decided to "clean" the bathroom with her Kan-Do wipes...all of them...the whole package), but I learned that I just needed to check in on her every few minutes. She was also a great help to me with DS, getting me diapers, entertaining him for a few minutes if I needed to go grab something, etc.
After a while we were able to take DS out and about and could go to a park, or shopping, just to get out of the house. Anything was special, and it was quality time with DD. I didn't make it to "story hour" or museum every time, and that was OK too. One time we got lost trying to find the library, so we ended up at a candy store. I let DD make a bag of pick a mix candy (a little bag, I'm not THAT bad of a mom), and for a few days I was the Best. Mom. Ever. She still talks about it.
You guys will do great!
