DH and I were shopping last night.  Not sure exactly how it came up, but the clerk is a preemie mom of a 26-weeker.  The baby was born in 2002 and didn't make it :( She said the baby had severe hemmoraging and the doctors were shocked it survived 2 weeks.  I just felt so bad for her.  :(  Since then she has had 2 healthy term babies.  I thought she was going to cry when she asked how Andrew was doing and seemed so happy to hear that he was doing so well.

    Very sad. I encountered this once too with a grocery clerk. She asked about my twins and when I told her about them being born early she said her grand-baby was born that early too and didn't make it. I felt survivor guilt big time that day.

    it always breaks my heart when I hear things like this. As happy as they are for you, you know they're also wondering why their child couldn't have lived, too.

    Damn prematurity.

    We just had a family friend lose one of her premie twins.  They were bigger than mine and should have been fine but they didn't make it.  These stories break my heart.  For all us premie moms go through, it goes to show there is a worse side to all of this and we are blessed!
