We had one at my work and I took some food, but I got quite a few comments about how I was not suppose to bring anything. I just felt weird coming empty handed.

I would say bring a treat only as a thank you. Maybe bring it in after the shower so people don't think you brought stuff to your own shower.
On second thought, have DH bring the cookies the next day. People will probably be overloaded on food from the shower the day-of so it'll be a nice surprise. And I bet someone will be bringing a cake or some sort of dessert to the shower anyway.

This is what we did. DH's office threw us the same sort of shower. I wrote thank you notes and attached bags of cookies to them a day or so later.
