We signed our contract with the doula we selected yesterday. We get 3 prenatal visits with her to make our birth plan and to practice labor stuff around our house. Then she'll be there at our house for labor and transfer to the hospital with us. She will also provide us with 2 postpartum visits. During those she'll provide whatever I need: lactation assistance, household chores, babysitting while I shower or something, someone to talk to, etc... All this we get for $400. That's a pretty typical price for where we are: Charlottesville, VA.
Re: signed contract with our doula
Yeah, I didn't realize we would get to practice in different rooms around our house as one of the sessions with her. I'm stoked about that because hearing about things you can do and actually trying some of the things are pretty different. Also, I am concerned about laboring at home being comfortable and that session should be able to put my fears to rest.
The postpartum visits sound pretty great to me too!
