Babies: 3 - 6 Months

mommy's of girls/ear piercing

1. Do you plan on piercing your DD ears?

2. If so when and where?

I don't think I can go through with it. But they look so cute with earrings.

Re: mommy's of girls/ear piercing

  • 1. Only if she wants them done

    2. When and if she asks for it...

  • We're not going to pierce her ears until/if she asks.  I'm personally not a fan of earrings on babies.  Just not my thing!

  • I don't think baby girls look cute in earrings - it honestly annoys me a bit to see them. What's the point of them? To make sure others know she's a girl? Who cares what strangers think, anyways? Obviously the baby didn't ask for them, so it was the mother's choice to inflict unnecessary pain on their LO for only cosmetic reasons. People might say the baby won't remember the pain, but IMO, you're choosing pain for your LO who doesn't have a choice.

I had my ears pierced when I was 2 - I didn't ask for it, and they are crooked because I screamed and moved my head away from the piercing gun. When I had them re-done as a teenager, I remember how sore they were as they healed with the turning required. Not something I would inflict on DD.

I won't be getting DD's ears pierced until she's old enough to ask for them and old enough to take care of them herself.

  • Not until they are 14...that was the rule for my sister and I as well.  My mom said by then we would be old enough to take care of them ourselves with the turning etc. required.  Plus, my cousin got her dd's ears pierced when she was a baby and she had a horrible reaction to the metal and ended up in respiratory distress from the reaction.  Definitely not worth it!

  • 1. I plan to let her choose.

    2. When she is old enough to take care of them properly. Not sure where we'll go.

I had mine pierced when I was 8 months old and never had issues with them when I was a teenager and wanted to wear cheap earrings.  I am going to have DD's done at around the same time.  Most girls want pierced ears & I had so many friends growing up who had their's pierced and didn't take care of them and the got infected.  They wanted to wear cheap "cool" earrings but when they did they got infected because they had a fairly new piercing. It is because these things that I am going to have DD's pierced in a few months & I will take care of them so they don't get infected.

I agree, also think they look cute!

Oh & I am going to do a bit of research and have it done at a place that specializes in body piercings.  They do weird and wonderful body parts every day so they should be able to do ears with their eyes shut!  I don't trust my DD's ears to a 20 year old at the mall & my Pedi doesn't do them.  I asked him and he gave me the okay at her 2 month appt. to have them done & suggested the body piercing type shop.

  • 1. Done already

    2. I had mine pierced at 3 months. Did DD's at 5 months at a jeweller that pierces babies ears all the time. Would've done it at the pedi, but mine doesn't do it. I did ask him before took her to get it done, though. The actual piercing was much easier than I thought it would be (where I went, they do both ears at the same time). The after-care is extremely important, though.

  • We plan on doing DD's ears if it is something that she wants when she is older, we think maybe around age 7 or 8....my hubby, his mom, and sister all have allergies with certain types of gold and I had severe reactions/infections from getting my ears pierced so we are waiting...Plus I think it is something she should want, not us.

  • I had mine done before I was a year. So I don't have particularly strong opinions on it, but DH says no way she is getting them until she is at least five. That's fine, if she wants them, then it will be a good birthday present.
