3rd Trimester

PSA: Inducing does not always work! Vent!

Here I sit six days over due with a fairly large baby in my belly. I have been to the hospital twice now to try different inducement techniques. I had cervidil the first time for 12 hours and then pitocin the second day for 12 hours with no progress at all. My contractions were a perfect 2-3 minutes apart and mildly painful. My cervix just will not dilate. I am barely a finger tip dilated and just a bit thinned out. I go back tomorrow for another check and probably more pitocin. If I am not dilated or do not dilated then I'm pretty sure I am headed down c-section road. There is no way I can wait this out any longer. I contract on my own at a regular pattern. They were 6 minutes apart when I went in for pictocin so it looked very promising, however they just aren't that strong and sometimes barely noticable.

What makes this even more frustrating is that this is my second child. With my son I was dilated 2-3 cenimeters for weeks before my due date. My water broke at home and I was dilated to 4 when I got to the hospital.

I'm beginning to think this is completely all in my head and that I have some sort of weird fear of giving birth again and it won't allow my body to do what it needs to do.

Thanks for letting me get that all out there. I am a mess these past few days.

  • I'm SO sorry, my mom had the SAME trouble with me, induced twice, thankfully the third time works, but I was 3 weeks late.
  • Have you tried researching positions to make sure LO's head is right where its supposed to be?  I have never gone through labor but I have read that if the head if off just a bit that can prohibit labor from progressing.  It could be worth a try.  Sorry you're having such a hard time.

  • Yikes this sounds a lot like my situation. I'm so sorry.

I went in last Wednesday for a cervix ripening treatment - after a check on Friday, it did nothing.

I am checking in to L&D Monday night for a stronger cervix ripening medication where they'll monitor me overnight. If that works, they'll induce Tuesday. If not, dr. said we'd try again in a couple of days. I broke down Friday because it is so frustrating. I'm sorry to hear about your situation and hope that you get some good news soon!

  • I feel you when you say you may have some fear of labor that is making you not have your baby..

Even though this will be my 1st labor I feel like nothing is going to happen, like I am in denial and that my denial is prohibiting my labor. I kinda feel crazy! But good luck to you!
