Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did you feel up to cooking again?

I'm going to start working on some freezer meals in the next couple weeks and have no idea how many I should make.  We have family/friends nearby so I'm sure they will be bringing food over fairly often the first couple weeks.  How many weeks did it take for you to feel up to cooking meals for your family again?

Re: When did you feel up to cooking again?

  • I didn't make any freezer meals and only had (2) other dishes brought to us after I had DD.

I was cooking the 2nd week again.

  • Yesterday.  No BS.  I was so tired and sore for a long time and wanted nothing to do with the kitchen.  This weekend I have been cooking and baking up a storm.

  • Right away.  I wasn't sore though.  We did have some family in town so they helped but overall it wasn't that hard to cook and the baby sleeps alot.
  • Cooking because we needed to eat?  3 wks

Cooking because I enjoy it?  lol 6 months pp.

  • I just started cooking again last week... but my idea of cooking is a TGI Friday's freezer meal in a skillet.

  • I still really haven't but only because I haven't had time.  We've been eating a lot of cereal.  And no one really brought us any food or anything.  I'm home alone all day and so tired when DH gets home I don't want to cook anything.

  • I had enough freezer meals to get us through about two weeks. We had some help and I was cooking again by 3 weeks, although it is definitely not everyday :)

  • 2 months.  Seriously.  It wasn't until DD started going to sleep early enough for me to cook after she went to bed.  She's fussy in the evenings and won't let me put her down.

  • Just a few days ago. We had family bring us food, and honestly I would have completely forgotten to eat if people weren't bringing food over already prepared.

Today was the first day I actually went major grocery shopping to get food for dinner this week.

  • only recently - and i am only up for super quick things like crockpot recipes.  ds doesn't have a predictable nap schedule so it is hard to find to do it.  my cousin's husband gets home and can watch the baby while she cooks.  mh husband gets home closer to 7 so i don't have time to cook after he gets home.
  • 6 weeks. Initially because I was so sore & tired all the time, then because DS kept getting fussy in the early evenings. Now we're in a routine so it's easier, but I still try to cook meals in the morning then I just have to worry about heating them up later on in case DS does get cranky.
  • I barely have my head on straight enough to heat up the stuff people have brought over.  lol.

I haven't touched my freezer stash yet, which makes me incredibly happy.

  • I still live on sandwiches/protein bars. No way I'm getting suckered into taking on the housewife role when my husband is home too and has two hands and doesn't use them. I might start cooking again when my son is old enough for solids. :)
  • DD was in the NICU for a week and I felt basically normal by the time I came home so probably within the first week.

We made a ton of freezer meals and make those maybe 2-3x a week, but it was a PITA remembering to set them out to thaw in time.  My bf has been great about cooking too.

I guess I'm lucky so far bc DD sleeps enough for me to make meals.  It probably depends if you have a needy/fussy baby or not.

  • I made pasta primavera the day after I got home.  I've been at it ever since, but I LOVE to cook, and it helped me feel back to normal.
  • I've been really into slow cooker meals the last couple of weeks.  They usually last several days for us and I don't have to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.  Love this website...https://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2007/12/alphabetical-listing-of-recipes.html
