DH is a sports reporter and man he got ripped today for a story. It is SO hard to read the nasty things people say about him, but I will continue to do it, because, well, I support him and what he does. I don't think I can fully do that if I don't read his stories and what people think about them.
Anyone else in this kind of position? Luckily, he has a tough skin and stands behind what he writes, because it's the truth and unbiased (which people have a problem with).
But anyway, he is covering a ball game tonight with the school that is mad with him. lol.
I think I am going to go buy a pint of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia and enjoy it while he is gone.
Re: Anyone or their DH/SO have a career in journalism?
My DH was a journalist long before we met. For awhile he covered high school sports, and IF he were to get laid off from his current job (graphic artist), he's toyed around with returning to writing. He misses it....haven't heard him mention anything about getting criticized for a story, other than that it didn't bother him because even when someone did criticize it still meant that he reached them or affected them in some way with his writing.
Although - if he does return to it and someone does criticize him, it would be more difficult for me to accept I think....he's one of those guys that doesn't really let anything get to him.
I most certainly will!
I worked in local TV news for 20+ years and left the biz about 5 years ago. Don't miss it one bit.
Rarely will anyone call you and compliment you for a well written story. But anything they perceive as negative, and you'll get a voicemail box full of angry people--all telling you how you're a moron and how to do your job. People do not get motivated to give compliments.
Goes with the territory.
Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, it's not a territory I like to be in. LOL. Like I said though, thankfully DH has the thick skin. Me? I just want to beat people up. Hahaha.
I told DH that there was one woman that I wanted to kick in the mouth, but unfortunately I would not be able to get my leg up that high during this time of my life.
