A friend of mine recently found out she is pregnant with triplets through ivf, she is about seven weeks along. At first they thought it was twins and then they found a third heartbeat. Her OB dr immediately started advising her to terminate one or two of the babies! There is no way she would be willing to do that. She has had trouble with infertility but everything is anatomically fine like no incompetant cervix or anything. I was just wondering if this was something normally advised or if she should find new doctors?
Re: Any help would be appreciated
Her OB should not tell her to do SR but I'm sure they are required to give her the risks of carrying three babies vs. two babies.
She needs to go see a peri/MFM immediately (this is a OB with more school, deals with high risk pg). She should not be seing only an OB if she is expecting triplets.
OMG. Really!?!?! I cannot believe they would TELL her that. Like RobynK, I see them giving her the risks but I cannot even imagine that.?

?
My suggestion? Find a NEW OB ASAP! ?
This is normal protocall for someone pergnant with triplets. She needs to visit tripletconnection.org a national site dedicated to triplet preganacies and parents of triplets it is full of information on SR.
There have been many studies done that sr does not prolong a triplet pregnancy enough for it to be a benefit. She needs to find a parnatoligist, a high risk OB and stick with him and see no one but him.
My RE actually had that talk with me before they implanted my embryos - maybe Dr.s feel compelled to say it because of risk?
I only have twins, but I agree with everyone else - she should get to a maternal fetal specialist/peri and only see him/her
Your friend needs a Perninatologist immediately! Twins are high risk and tiplets are even more so. Your friend needs to get proper care and advice about taking care of herself and preventing pre-term labor.
My Perinatologist actually HAS triplets. Even so, his wife went into pre-term labor at 28 weeks - and one of the boys has cerebal palsey.
