My husband is a nurse at a hospital and i work at the hospital also but as a nurses aid. My husband is friends with a infectious disease doctor and this doctor told my husband that only the parents should hold the baby first week or few days after delivery. Because of the baby being brand new and all the different germs. Has anyone ever heared this before????
Re: only parents are supposed to hold baby first few days of being born.
This. I would need security detail 24/7 at my house to keep the grandmothers away from the baby.
When we accept visitors only close family and my 2 best girlfriends are going to be allowed to hold the baby and we are going make everyone wash their hands first. Both of DH's grandmothers smoke and they won't be holding Robert for a long time and they will have to change shirts and "wash up" before we let them.
I don't care if I sound like a paranoid b!tch. I went through 4 years of infertility and 3 m/c.
I have no problems with people I know holding my kid. If I was so afraid to put my child's life in their hands, I probably wouldn't be friends with them.
Just make sure people wash their hands, etc. and you'll be fine.
Try tellin' that to my family, lol! It makes sense though. Just ask people to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer. That should be good.
So other people's germs are more dangerous to baby than your's and DH's germs? If germs are the real issue, it should matter who holds the baby as long as they wash their hands, including the parents.
